Don't know when I last updated. My gg grandfather was Patrick Byrnes, born 1798 in Co. Louth, Ire, died 4-21-1865 and is buried in Kickapoo, IL. He was marr in Ire to Alice (Murray?) who was born in 1811 and died 5-31-1896. I am told they came to US thru Baltimore in 1846, then to Peoria Co, IL in 1848. I show them having nine children inc Alice born in MD and Peter born in IL. Presumably, the other seven were born in Ire....James, 1830, Ann 1833, Julia 1837, my great grandfather Patrick 1840, Thomas 1842, Margaret 1846, and Edward 1846. I have spouses and info on these siblings. What I would like more info on is the original Patrick and his wife Alice. If you are "of" this family, or have info, Please let me know.

Ms Sasso I was looking over the messages on this message and came accross your question regarding Byrnes of County Louth. Do You know the town from which your Byrnes came? I have a GG Grand Father Terence Byrnes who married Mary Connor April20, 1800 in DUNLEER, Co. Louth. This couple produced 6 Children listed as follows:
Mary Byrne 3/15/1801
Anne Byrne 6/17/1803
Patrick " 5/26/1805 (Probable named after
Terence' Father)
Mary Byrne 7/31/1807
John Byrne 5/22/1809
James Byrne 6/28/1811
James moved to Ardee, Co. Louth and married Margaret McEntee of Hale St., Ardee 2/25/1835.
Their Children are: Terence (7/1/1836); Mary (1/26/1839); Patrick (8/14/1841); John (3/30/1844); Anne (9/9/1846); and James Joseph (9/27/1850). The emigrated to the USofA in 1851 and settled in Boston by May 5, 1851.

Hi...thank you for the communique re Byrnes of Co.Louth. No, I do not know the town from whence they came. I have determined that they were most likely unable to read or write since documents I've seen are marked with an X for a signature so the spelling could be in question. What I do have is: Patrick Byrnes is my gr,gr, grandfather and is buried with my gr, gr, grandmother in Kickapoo, IL. The dates given are birthdate/his 6-24-1798 and hers 6-15-1805 or 1811 and corresponding dates of death, his 4-21-1865, hers 5-31-1896.
Some of my rels believe her last name was Murray..no proof. They immigrated approx 1846 thru Baltimore, settling in Peoria Co., IL, in 1848. They came with 7 children, all born in IR, had another child in Maryland (?) and another in Illinois.
I know I have a listing somewhere in my (many) files about the county of Ardee, which you mentioned, but it may be about another of my lines.....which included Harmon, Scanlan, Mykins, Noonen, McDermott, McCarty, Boyle, Doran and numerous others.....all of Ireland. Will keep your wonderful message and do some more research as time allows. Thank you.

Ms Sasso; Thanks for feeding my ego with the comment about "wonderful" reply. I'm impossible to live with now. I responded because of the similarity between the first names in your list and the first names in my list. In you reply you mentioned the name "Harmon". I have a Mary Byrne(s) married to a John Hardman in Wyanstown, Co. Louth (3/27/1816). According to my resource in the Louth County Library, Harmon is a variation of Harman or Hardman. To make a short story long this Mary Byrne(s) Hardman or Harmon or Harman is lying in my great grandfather's grave lot here in Boston since 1860 and hasn't paid a dime in rent! Bill

Oh, I should have gotten back sooner.....but.....
We will definitely need to share more info on Byrnes/Harmon.
Going back to the first info I have on my Harmon line, one gal does have our name listed as "Hardman" actually.
Dennis Hardman/Harmon marr Mara/Mary Callan approximately 1804. Dennis was of Ballykenny Parish, Ferrad Barony, Drogheda Union Coo. Louth and Mara was of Louth Parish, Louth Barony, Ardee & Dundalk Unions, Co.Louth.
It would be very likely that your Mary Byrne(s) marr John Hardman on 3/27/1816 represents "another connection."....
especially with these folks linking up with each other in America (always wondering why certain families "followed" one another to certain areas). So, if Mary Byrne Hardman is resting peacefully in Boston for all these years, I'd definitely like to know more about her........and these double (name) connections we seem to have. P.S. Good for her not to have to pay rent......the Irish can be pretty tight. Sheila

Nat Hardman, I have a John Hardman married to a Mary Byrne. But I have no record of a son Uriah. The marriage took place in County Louth, Dundalk I believe. Mary Byrne Hardman died in 1860 and is buried in Holyhood Cemetary in a grave lot owned by James Byrne (Burns)

RE: John Hardman posting, I can give you an absolute, unequivocal "MAYBE"! I have a John Hardman married to a Mary Byrne. Mary Harmon was interred on Dec. 19, 1866, at age 64 yrs in the grave of my Great Grandfather's burial plot in Holyhood Cemetery (Walk H, Grave 6-8), Brookline, MA. This means she was born about 1802. In searching the Death Registers for 1864 in MAssachusetts I could find no Mary Harman. This could be because a) she died in another state (NY), or b) I didn't realize that Hardman and Harman are two spellings of the same name. To make a short story long I have a record of Mary Byrne of Wyanstown marrying John Hardman of ? In Togher Parish, 3/27/1816.Witt:Patt McCullan & Andrew Barton. Source of info re: The Hardman/Harman name is contained in a letter dtd 7/12/2001-/s/Kathy O'Hagan of Louth County Library. Where John is interred I do not know, but Mary being interred in GGF's grave indicates a strong family tie existed with her!
