Terence & John Byrne (Burns)

James Byrne (DOB: June 28, 1811-Dunleer, Co. Louth) married Margaret McEntee (DOB: March 16, 1812-Ragory, Co. Louth) on Feb. 25, 1835 at Ardee, Co. Louth.
Children: *Terence, DOB: July 01, 1836
Mary DOB: January 26, 1839
Patrick (Patt) DOB: August 18, 1841
*John DOB: August 14, 1844
Anne DOB: September 09, 1846
**James (Joseph) DOB: September 27, 1850
All of the above named children were born in Ardee, Co. Louth.
*=Persons of interest for this message
**=Writer's Grand Father
In reviewing various documents for the above named persons I find that James and Margaret with children Mary, Patrick, Anne and James appear to have emigrated to the USofA, and settled in Boston, MA o/a May 5, 1851. Terence and John Byrne are not accounted for in any of the documents avaiable to me. (Census records, Federal and Local, marriage, birth and death records, citizenship intentions, and certificates, etc.). There appears to be no record of this family landing in any of the East Coast Ports either, so it would seem they entered the USofA (where the spelling of the name was changed to "BURNS") through Canada. I'm wondering if somebody researching the Byrne (now the Burns family) has knowledge of Terence and John Byrne (Burns). If so would the kind person share this information with me before I go Bonkers!
Bill Golden, Green Harbor, Massachusetts

I am seeking information about the family of my maternal grandfather, John Byrne. His family was originally from Drogheda but emmigrated to Liverpool in the late 1800s. John served in the Royal Navy in WWI. He met my granmother Mary Carroll in New York and had five children; Margaret (Peggy), Catherine (my mother), Audrey, John and Eileen. He died around 1929-30 in NYC. My mother (Catherine Haran Byrne) met a woman from chicago on a cruise ship a few years ago who was a "Liverpool Byrne." She was never able to track her down. Mom and I would both like to learn some more about her father's family.

Byrne Co. Donegal, Ireland to Cuero, TX

I am looking for information on three Byrne brothers that immigrated from the townland of Malinbeg in the Parish of Glencolumbkille in southwest Donegal to Cuero, TX in the early 1890s.

The 1900 Cuero census shows Mike Byrne living with his brother, Barnie (Barney) Byrne. Barnie was married to a Frances and died before 1910. Frances is listed as a widow in the 1910 census with one child, Barney at age 9.

Based upon the 1910, 1920 and 1930 Cuero census, Mike married a Louisa and had one child, Mike Jr. It appears that Louisa died 19 Nov 1959 in De Witt Co. I have been unable to find when Mike Sr. died and find a record of his death certificate. I would like to see if his parents are listed on the death certificate.

In 1910, a niece and nephew of Mike Byrne, Ellen and Michael McGinley passed through Ellis Island with their final destination listed as uncle Michael Byrne in Cuero. Ellen and Michael McGinley were listed as being from Malinbeg, Glencolumbkille, Co. Donegal, Ireland.

Also in the 1900 Cuero census is the family of John J. Byrne and Annie (?). John is likely a brother of Barney and Mike. This family moved to Tarrant County.

All three individuals were in the grocery business.

Any information confirming the relationship of the three brothers and Mike Byrne’s death certificate would be appreciated.
Byrne surname

In Ireland Byrne is Smith and Brown in N.America. Someone could correct me but I have read that the Glendalough area was the Kingdom of the Byrne's (Princes of Ireland)from ancient times before the English came. The spelling Burns in Ireland is fairly unusual, more a British spelling, however, since most people were illiterate at that time and signed with an X spellings were easily changed. I have the Cantwell CD produced by Eneclann (Trinity College) and I have noted that the person who carved the inscriptions could also spell things differently and sometimes even on one gravestone would be two different spellings of the same name. Possibily it is about this time people started to use
a more definite spelling as more paperwork and registrations and records were kept.
In a Glendalough graveyard (there are 3) I found only one reference to the U.S. A family member in the U.S. would sometimes have a gravestone erected in memory of their parents and family. I found only one reference to the U.S.
that of a William, of 413 Spruce St. Philadelphia who died in 1901, this was on one of 55 Byrne gravestones at that site. The two other graveyards, many Byrne's and the only ones for a BURNS was Rev. John Burns.
The only reference to a Luke Byrnes was a memorial erected for his mother Ester, at Kilmacanogue GY,Glendalough. I checked the few Larkin's and several Williams around the area and nothing that would be of help. Also it is estimated over 1/2 of Ireland's graveyards have been vandalized and stones destroyed or reused for buildings or can't be read as the inscriptions have worn away.
A good website is www.familysearch.org the LDS's it is free and they will bring in microfilm/fiche to your nearest History Center if you find something you want to check on.
I also find www.theshipslist.com handy for checking passengers and of course Ellis Is.for the U.S.in particular.

PLEASE NOTE, THIS WAS POSTED FOR REFERENCE ONLY. I AM NOT RELATED TO, NOR AM I RESEARCHING THIS FAMILY, I’VE ONLY DONE A COPY AND PASTE FROM OUR LOCAL NEWSPAPER FYI.

THIS INFO HAS BEEN POSTED WITH THE PERMISSION OF THE EDITOR OF THE COLUMBIA BASIN HERALD.
Billie J. Byrne
Posted: Thursday, Apr 24, 2008 - 04:27:27 pm PDT
COLUMBIA BASIN HERALD, MOSES LAKE, WASHINGTON STATE

Billie J. Byrne, 88, a longtime resident of Ephrata, passed away Sunday, April 20, 2008.

Rosary will be held Thursday, April 24 at 7 p.m. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. Mass will be recited Friday, April 25 at 1 p.m. at St. Rose of Lima. Viewing will be at the church on Friday, April 25 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Arrangements are in care of Kayser's Chapel and Crematory, Moses Lake. Please sign the guestbook or leave a note for the family at www.kayserschapel.com.

Billie was born in Spokane, on March 21, 1920, the daughter of Everett Otto Garrison and Eva Hale Garrison. She grew up in Moses Lake's Cascade Valley, where her father had earlier homesteaded an apple orchard on the south shore of the lake. She graduated from Neppel High School (Moses Lake High). A few years of her youth were also spent in Butte, Mont., during the Depression where after her mother passed away after childbirth, Billie headed the family, along with her brother, while their father worked in the mines in order to save the farm.

After graduating from high school, Billie moved to Wenatchee, where she met and married her husband, Edward Victor Byrne (married in July 1941). While Ed was away in WW II Billie returned to Grant County. They proceeded to successfully raise seven children.

Billie worked at the Grant County Journal before taking a job with the Ephrata school system at Grant School. She then worked at the Grant County Juvenile Department until her retirement in 1985.

She was an outgoing, kind, gracious lady. She loved her family dearly, also her friends. Everyone loved her in return. She was like her father in attracting people to her, even the casual encounter. She was a tireless worker who also loved to have fun. In retirement she found that she loved to spend time in the winter months gambling. She loved gardening, swimming, fine arts, hanging out with the children and grandchildren, reading, photography, pinochle and all kinds of games. And of course, she was a master shopper-bargain hunter. Most of all she liked a laugh and a good funny story.

Her love of God was present and subtle, never overbearing or preachy. Her advice when requested was invariably right on target and profound and delivered in her gentle way. Billie chose to see the best that she could find in all of life's turns and situations. We will miss her for the rest of our lives.

Billie was a member of the St. Rose of Lima Parish. She loved working with the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. She dedicated many years of faithful service to her beloved church.

Billie is survived by her children, Jim and Leslie Byrne, Foster City, Calif.; Ed and Beth Byrne, Exeter, Calif.; Tom and Judy Byrne, Castle Rock, Wash.; Mary and Mike Dolan of Chehalis, Wash.; Janet Dudley of Salem, Ore.; and Patrick Byrne of Ephrata; 14 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Victor and son Joseph Martin Byrne and her brothers, Bus (Clarance) Garrison, Richard Garrison, Bill (Everette Arvid) Garrison, and sisters, Marie Lopeman, Zeta Hutchinson, Fay Garrison, Donna Lee Shields, and Susan Romano.

In lieu of flowers and donations, do what Billie would like, hug your loved ones and say a prayer.
Edward Byrne m. Mary Buckley

Margaret Mary O'NEIL (b. 22 Oct 1851, Dunkirk), daughter of John and Winifred KANE O'Neil. (John apparently died pre-1870, when Winifred and family moved to Sauk County, Wisconsin.) On 26 Nov 1874, Margaret married John Buckley (b. 1846, Bridgeport, CT), brother of Mary Buckley, who married Edward BYRNE on 23 Aprl 1874; both marriages were in Sauk Cty, WI. Edward BYRNE (my G-Grandfather) was also born in Dunkirk, on 18 Jun 1844. Too much of a coincidence that both Margaret Mary O’NEIL and Edward BYRNE were born in Dunkirk, ended up in Sauk Cty, WI, and married siblings (BUCKLEYs). Looking for anything about the O’NEIL/O’NEILL/ONEAL and BYRNE families from Dunkirk/Chautauqua area.

Hi, I am researching my g-grandfather John BYRNE who was born c. 1872 in Pulloughy, Offaly. His father was John Byrne (no info), don't know mother's details and he married Julia BERRY (born c.1880 Philipstown, Offaly) on 29 July 1904 in Pulloughy. They had four children Mary Kate b.1907, Patrick b.1909-d.1977 Dundee, Scotland (my grandfather), John b.1910 (known as Jack) and William b.1911. All children moved to Scotland.
John died some time between 1911 and 1924 from meningitis, and Julia subsequently re-married William CLIBBORN in 1924 in Scotland.
Julia BERRY's parents were William BERRY and Julia O'NEIL and her siblings were Joe, Danny, Christy and John. They were a big family but I have no other information.
Any information greatly appreciated Angie

BYRNE - Looking for information related to the birth of MICHAEL J. BYRNE. On his 1917 US Passport Application, Michael's son, Austin Thomas Byrne, indicates that his father was born in Schoharie, NY. This suggests a birth year range for Michael Byrne of about 1810-1839. According to Austin's listing in Who's Who in America, his mother's maiden name was Ellen CASHIN. Any information or suggestions will be appreciated.

They got married lived in Gregory, Mitchigan. They had 16 children, two of whom were Margaret Mary Frances. They returned to Drogheda in 1961 for a family reunion. Does this ring any bells? Are they in your family? I am willing to exchange information.

Robert Burns, Patrick Byrne, T. Byrne - Nova Scotia/Ireland

My Grandfather was Robert Howard Burns, b. 27 January 1891 in Sherbrooke, Guysborough Co., Nova Scotia, Canada, d. 31 July 1967 in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He married Mary Sophe Pye (b. 1862) from Innes River, Nova Scotia.

I think that Patrick Byrne, Robert's father, was born in 1860 in West Cape, Nova Scotia. He was married to Mary Sophie Pye of Innes River (b. 1862).

T. Byrne, Patrick's father, was married to a woman named Ann, but that is all that I know.

If anybody can give me some direction, it would be most appreciated.

I have no idea of where to start looking!

Nicole

My great grandfather, James William Davison, was born in County Tyrone, Ireland in 1845. HE was the son of William Davison and Margaret Leonard. He served in the RIC for about one year when he was 18 or 19 before he emmigrated to the USA. He may have been married to a woman named Margaret when he emmigrated. If so, she would have died shortly afterwards.

He married Anne/Anna Byrne(s) in February 1872 in New York City. Anne/Anna was born in County Monaghan in 1846. I do not know when she emmigrated to the USA.

James died 12 November 1916 in New York City. Anne/Anna died 21 July 1924 in New Jersey.

They had the following children: William (1873-1936)(my grandfather), John (1874-1876), Margaret (1877-1959), Anna (1879-1966), Ellen (1881-1961), Rosetta (1885-aft 1910), Robert (1883-1884).

I know nothing about where the Byrne(s) line other than it originated in County Monaghan, Ireland.

Maggi Davison
