My name is Nancy Byrer Walker, daughter of Fay O. Byrer and Erma Foster Byrer. My siblings and I were all born in Odon; living siblings are Marvin Fay Byrer (living in Reed, KY), Judy Nell Byrer (living in Henderson, KY), and Karen Byrer Wallace. Karen and I both live in Corydon, KY.
My half-brother, Larry Neil Jackson, is deceased. My father's only living sibling at this time is Nellie Norris who lives in Washington, IN. Nellie has one living son, Rance, with whom Nellie lives. Nellie's son, Ronald, is deceased.

My father's parents were Pat and Rosa Byrer who lived and died in Odon. Pat was a logger, and I had heard that his parents came to the U.S. via ship from Ireland. Don't have any idea if this is accurate.

My father was an operating engineer who was known to be the best in the field, respected by all of his co-workers. My brother, Marvin, also was an operating engineer, but is now retired and fighting a battle against lung cancer. We all left Odon around 1954-1955 when we settled in Henderson County, KY.

My Byrer relatives are also basically from Odon or Raglesville. In fact my father has just recently moved back to our ancestors "family farm" in Odon. He lives just off Shiloh Rd. Anyways, we are from the Kilgore-Byrer chain and alot of our family is burried in the Kilgore Family Cemetery. (just burried a great uncle there a year ago). While there I took note of the names on some of the headstones and with some help from my grandmother, I started my search then and there. I can track down previous to settleing in America however its after the Kilgore/Bryer connection that I am getting stuck. I know that Matilda Kilgore married Gotlieb Byrer and they had at least 9, possibly 12 children. One child being Dema Byrer (my link) and she married Joseph Noblett also of Odon. I cannot find out what children they had or their names. Do you have any idea? I would be happy to share all names and dates that I have if anyone is interested. Hoping to hear from you or anyone with any information at all. Thank you very much!

I would be interested in the information that your dad has. I haven't done any research in a couple of years, but when I was, I couldn't find the connection between the southern In Byrer's and the northern Ohio Byrer's. I have most of the first generation after Gottleib.

The Byrer's in Northern Ohio are related to Gottlieb also. My family is Don (Brother), Lanny (Dad), Karen (Mother), Tom & Jay (Uncles) Tom's Son's (can't remember names-Columbus area). David who is a cousin of my father's, resides down the road from me-whom I have never met. I believe there is also a Byrer around the Lodi area. We met some Byrer's in West Virginia years back and found out we were related. I think all the Byrer's are related anyway, some close, some distant-It's not such a prevelant name. My dad has ancestry info if anyone is interested.

I will be seeing my Dad tomorrow (Wednesday) so I will get the info from him. I have some around here somewhere also. I remember an Edna Skaggs-I think it was my Dad's grandmother-not sure, but I know there are some Skaggs in the chain. I know there are a few other Byrer's in Ohio but I am not sure what the connections are. I know of some Byrer's of W. Va. relation-I remember we were driving through this little town then all of a sudden there was a baseball field named in memory of _______ Byrer. We did a little asking around and found out his widow lived there still (just off of Byrer St.). We stopped by and ended up exchanging info and found out the connection. I think we have a pretty good amount of ancestry info. Anyway, I'll be in touch soon.

I have very found memories of Odon, My grand parents are in the nursing home in Odon Joyce and Jake Byrer, they lived at 305 s. gum st. across the r.r tracks from the saw mill

I'm the granddaughter of Dicie Uretta Byrer & George Raymond Myers. She left a notebook of family history & has down that Gottlieb had 2 brothers Fredrick & John. My Grandmother's Great Grandparents were Gottlieb & Matilda. Her Grandparents were William & Nancy (Burgett) Byrer. Her Father & Mother were Benjamin Franklin & Martha L. (Dinkins) Byrer. Are you sure that Gottleib had a brother named Leland. I did some research on the Byrer family from Southern Indiana a few years ago. I got as far as the family that immigrated from Germany/Prussia. There is only one Gottlieb that I've run across. He had a brother John and Fred. Was there two Gottlieb's?

I did some research on my father's family a few years ago. They are the Byrer's from Southern Indiana descended from Gottlieb. I discovered some Byrer's in Northern Ohio that seemed to be totally unrelated. They could be related through some ancestor from Germany but didn't appear to be related through the ones in the America.

The Byrer family has proven to be very hard to track. I plan on going to the library and doing some searching. My grandfather (Marvin Sr. son of Fay Byrer) and I do not speak and it is hard to ask him questions. The Byrers here around Henderson hardly speak to each other so I know nothing. It is sad. BUT, I would like to organize a BYRER family reunion for every that will come with the last name Byrer. There at the reunion we could gather pictures and documents and try to piece this all together. Message me back and tell me what you all think about that.

Yes, it would be wonderful to have a Byrer reunion. However, most Byrer's live in the Odon/Raglesville/Loogootee area. It might be hard for them all to come to you. But, maybe we can send them a questionaire about their interest in a reunion first and give some places we could have the reunion. That way all would have a say and the site with the most choices can be selected and see how many are interested in a reunion. What do you think?

Hello Kim,
Yes Nellie is still alive and doing great! She's 82 now and gets around fabulously.

Janet died May 22, 2000 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes. She did have cancer and Nellie was able to see her before she died and attended her funeral when she died. Yes, she was a very nice lady. I remember seeing her when I was still living in Washington. Her daughters baby sat me and my brother when we were very small tots.

Nellies brother Rex died in 1999. He died from complications of Diabetes and he was completely blind by the time he died. He was her youngest brother and she is the only sibling left in her family.

Is your grandmother Nellie still alive?She was my dad's aunt my mom and I were talking about that the other day.She remembers dad talking about going to Nellies house and we believe that they had to live with her a while when there home burned.My mother remembers going to dad's grandmas funeral and meeting Nellie there.Also I heard through the grape vine that Janet Drew died is that true?She was such a beautiful lady,when we had my dad's funeral Roy and Mary Cell said she had cancer and was really sick then.I know I'm throwing alot of questions at you all at once but I am so excited about meeting the other side of my family.Thank you for everything.

Martha confirmed that my mother-in-law's family (maiden name Vera Byrer) is related to all the Byrers being talked about here. I read my husband the different names, and he remembers Nellie Norris. He thinks she is Vera's aunt. Is she Roy's sister or sister-in-law?

No Leland Byrer is NOT Gottlieb's brother!!!!! He is still living in Ashaway RI. Your info on Gottlieb is correct. My grandmother is Nellie Byrer-Norris and is the daughter of Perry Byrer, whose grandfather was Noah Byrer, whose greatgrandfather was Gottlieb Byrer, whose greatgreatgrandfather was (Johann) Casper Byrer. Can you tell me about Roy Byrer, Jr? We had never heard of him before seeing his name in an article about Jim Byrer's death last year. My mother-in-law, Vera Jean Byrer, is the oldest in her family (born 7/18/1927) from parents Roy Byrer/Letha Kirk; Jim and Leland followed.

Vera told us her father died when she was about 9 or 10 years old. Was Roy Jr. born before Roy Sr. married Letha Kirk? Who is Roy Jr's mother?

Yes we are related to your Byrer family. Roy Byrer was my mothers brother. My brother called me and told me that Jim had passed away last year. Sorry to hear that. I grew up with Roy Byrer Jr. who now lives in Loogootee, In. The others on the message boards are my cousins children. Kris Riffey has the most information so far on our side of the family. I think that she is posted also. If not, write back and I will pass the message on to her.
