That's interesting I didn't know about an Indian name I will have to ask mom. I don't know how all this works but if you can view my tree there is info there. MOm spent some time in Natchitoches and at Northwestern State University there. It's suppose to have lots of info. Some is hard to find as most was kept at parish churches and some of them had burned prior to our technology. I am planning on going to Latter day saints place in Phoenix soon since I am told they have wonderful resources guess I'll find out but stay in touch will trade info if you can't view tree let me know I can fax some stuff to you Natale

HELLO, I am Ren'e. I also am a Bynog and have researched it a little. You can go to ROOTSWEB.COM and find an August Bynog there married to Anne Bishop. Start there and then try LAGENWEB.COM and click on Nachitoches and look there. You can also go to Family search and find some things there. My grandpa was John O Bynog. His dad was Alcide Bynog. His dad was Raphael Bynog. I have heard and ran across the name August Bynog, but my geneology work is at home so I can't look and find who he was. I will look when I get home and try to get back to you tonight. We should be kin some how.

I am Melinda Bynog, and I am searching to find out more information on my father's side of the family. My grandfather's name was August Bynog, and he was from the Derry/Gorum area. The only information that I have been able to find on him is his old WWI draft card that states where he was from and that he had a sister as his next of kin. My father believes that he had an uncle, and he has told me that my grandmother Getrude was August's second wife. There was a previous wife, and I think her name was Anne. I am not sure. I would appreciate any information that anyone can tell me about my grandfather and his other relatives.

El Cojo was, I was told by several family members at different times, the brother of Francois Bynog, who I can find little info on and need desperately. I have found some written history on them in 'Tales of Old Natchitoches' and personal interviews with direct descendents of both Francois and Raphael Bynog/Bayanogue done by my cousin, Marie Talbot. I have a copy of it somewhere in my genealogy family book (I hope). It is possible that El Cojo went by Bynog AND CORTES(z). If you look up the Spanish names on the Cid and Baynog side, most of the names including Nepamuceno Cortes and wife are in the Bexar Archives. So is Torres (followed back from Torres). After I was told the El Cojo info I looked it up myself and verified El Cojo as the nickname and that further info was in the Bexar Archives but haven't had time to hit the Archives myself yet. Maybe soon..

Lindsey

What was the last name for the ancester named EL Cojo in the Bexar archives? I was wondering how he was related to Bayonogue, and how it was found out that he was an ancestor? I know on the Edwards side of my family they say the same thing about El Cojo.I talked to one cousin which is an Edwards and he has read up on El Cojo. There is a cite you can go to on rootsweb message board named Apaches. It has some torres(Z) in it which they say is an ancestor of Geronimo. I know the Edwards are direct desendents of the Torres(Joseph Corretunt Taures). Would love to talk to you. Email is RHARLEYBABY@AOL.COM

Joey,

I still have nothing on Sarfane. Pleeease tell me you have info on this family you can share with me. I am soooo tired of digging and finding nothing. I'm beginning to think I will have to go to San Antonio and go through the Bexar Archives myself in order to find anything. I know Sarfane's brother is listed in the Archives there as El Cojo, a Lipan Apache who seemed to alternately be arrested as a smuggler by the Spanish and then hired by them as a scout/interpreter. I also ran across the name Cortes/Curtis. Don't know if it will mean anything. I'm so frustrated!

Paula,

Did you ever find anything about the Bynogs? I was hoping to find my Grandmother's Bible, but found it was destroyed or stolen when my Aunt's house was broken into and trashed. I still haven't connected up with Sarfane, the father of Arsene/Arsane, Victor, Victorine, Plaisance, Denis and several more. It's possible he changed his name or used his second name instead of his first. This is so frustrating, to have looked for so long. Please, tell me you found something on this family in the Derry/Gorum/Flatwoods area of LA.

I have also found where there is an El Cojo Lipan Apache that was an Indian Chief. He and three other chiefs were at the cornation of Mexican Emperor Iturbide in August of 1822. This comes from explorer Jean Louis Berlandier reports of when he met with Cuelga de Castro.

I have a woman that is going to bring me some info. at our next tribal meeting . Supposedly our fore fathers were on the Choctaw rolls and were removed when the old ones died out. I will let you know when I find out. You must have been one of the ones that talked to my great uncle here in Tioga, La. He told me some ladies had come and talked with him.

I desperately need info on Francois Bynog. I know he was married to Marie Cid and to a Marie Jesus, called Susie. I have a picture of Raphael who was nicknamed 'Nig.' I will try to find it and give me a place to email it. I am soon going to try to set up a Bynog webpage and will inclued even the rumors of the family, and clearly mark what is verified and what is 'lore.' There is record of some of the family in the Bexar Archives if you can get access to them I would appreciate anything you find out. An ancestor was nicknamed El Cojo (the Cripple) by the Spanish who alterntely arrested him for smuggling and hired him as a scout. He is listed as a Lipan Apache leader. I had to stop work and haven't done any 'bynogging' for months, but I will try to pull out the ingo and see if I can sort it out well enough to make up a webpage for us. I have a list of all the childred and date (well approximate) of when they were born and guesses at which may have been adopted. Most of the family worked at the nearby plantation and some of their records are in the Plantation records. We had relatives that lived in Cane River as well.We even have a small bayou named Bynog Bayou.

Hey Lindsey Love,

Paula says she knows a lady that has a book about the Bynog Family. Well, guess what? I am a Bynog, too. And I am from Alexandria, Louisiana. My grandfather is August Bynog (Oskessee' Bayonogue????) I also heard about Sarfane and Serafane Bynog. I'm not sure, but they are kinned to my grandfather. Don't know if there his kids or brothers and sisters. But, my daddy Sam Joseph Bynog, Sr. is from Chopin, La. and we are kinned to just about everybody out there. I was raised in Alexandria, La. and moved to Bayou Vista, Tx about 4 years and 2 months ago. I have been trying to trace my geneology back, too. But, not having a lot of luck with some of the relatives. My mother's name is Rachel(White) Bynog. She was from Flatwoods, La. Both of them are deceased. My grandfather, August was married to Annie Bell or Belle (?) Boy, how soon we forget names. I guess it's old age. I'll try to research when I get home this weekend. My husband & I work out of town all week every week up in Livingston, TX. It's over 100 miles from where I live. I heard the Bynog's orginated from Nacogdoches, Tx, Canada, San Antonia, and France. I have some information, but, not enough. There are a lot of Bynog's. Didn't realized that. There is also or so I heard a tribe of the Bynogs' in Louisiana state recognized called the Confederate Tradewinds Tribe or Tradewinds Confederate Tribe or something of the sort. They were suppose to state recognized by Governor Foster. Anyway, we are probably kinned to the same people. Please email me and let me know any info you can. Thanks.

Judy(Bynog) Williamson

Hi Lindsey, I am Ren'e(Bynog)Albert . I am repling to your message because of the statement you made about Francois having more than 1 wife. I am a decendant of Rapheal Bynog which was Francois first born child according to the surviving relatives. I do know that Francois came and settled at Chopin area then after he was settled he went back and got his son and wife to bring them here to live. According to history from where they were from, there was a lot of unrest for Native Americans at the time even death or reservation .I Know that Rapheal was born in 1848. Francois was born in 1825. That means he was 23 when he had him , and for that era, they usually started their families earlier than that. I would like any info that you could help me with. I emailed loulou@beci.com for info on four winds but I have not had a reply yet. Is this still the correct email address to contact them? Thanks Ren'e

I appreciate the reply. I would love to come to one of the tribal meetings there, but unfortunately I live in Texas now. Haven't had much time to check on my genealogy, because I stay busy with work. My dad's name is Sam Bynog, Sr., deceased. My mother is Rachel White Bynog, deceased. I have a brother named Sam (Buddy) Bynog, Jr., 2 sisters, Joan Bynog Lightcap who lives with me and Joyce Bynog Rister. Sam and Joyce still live in Louisiana. Buddy of which we call him lives in Pineville on 28 East and Joyce lives in Mora, La. off of I-49 going toward Flatwoods, La. I live in Bayou Vista, Texas around Galveston, TX. My phone number is 409-935-2287 and my cell # is 409-457-8269. You can reach me at the cell # during the day. I am not at my house in Bayou Vista much except some weekends. I also have a home in Livingston, TX, too. My husband & I work there during the week and like I said sometimes go home on weekends. Yes, I would like to find out more on my family, too and also more about the tribe state recognized by former Governor Foster. Give me a call when you can. Thanks for the reply.
