Does anyone have any info about the history of Canadian Byatts and when we first moved to Canada?

Shawn,

My gt grandfather was Joseph Byatt born in Bury St Edmunds lived finally in England in Liverpool. He married Mary Jehu 13 Sep 1876. Mary died about 1898 and I believe that Joseph emigrated to Canada, possibly Toronto, after this event taking with him at least one of his daughters Alice. I believe he remarried and had at least one son Thomas who served in the forces during WW2. Thomas visited my grandmother at that time. All this told to me by an old aunt otherwise not verified.

Hi,
here is what I know about the Canada Byatts:

The father of John C. Byatt, from Bishopbriggs, was John Sydney Byatt, one of the sons of the marriage of JB and Lucy Alice Daly. Unfortunately, I don't know very much about the circumstances of how they settled in Glasgow. John C. has two brothers one of whom, James, went to Canada to be a soldier in the Yukon (current (year 2000) address Wainwright, Alberta, ). He has done the most research into the family history, especially on his mother's (McKenzie) side.

I am also researching Byatts in Canada, a James Henry Byatt, born 1885 Chorlton, Manchester, England. I think he went to Saskatchewan in 1912 to work. In 1915 he signed up with Canadian Overseas Expeditionary Forces. In 1918 he married Annie Vickers (born 1976) in Chorlton, Manchester. In 1919 Annie Byatt went out to Winnipeg to join him. They both came back (to visit?) in 1921. I think that Annie Byatt was still living in 1940s in Ontario. I don't think they had children. Does anybody know how I can find evidence from directories? In 1921 he was listed as 'conductor'- what could this be?

Shawn my mother was a byatt and her Grandfather was a Thomas Byatt who was born in Bury St Edmunds,in 1844 his son, my Mum's Dad, Joseph Byatt (born in London 1872) married a lady named Ruth Smith. I had an Aunt Elizabeth, sister of my Mum and her brother William Thomas Byatt went to live in Ontario in 1909. I think, though, before that there was another Joseph Byatt emigrated from England to Canada and in the same area. I think he may have been related to who mentioned above born in 1844. I would love to hear if these are any connection to you.

My grandmother was Elizabeth Byatt. She did arrive in Canada in 1909 and married Leonard Thomas Ashton on September 8, 1920. She had six children: Richard, Florence, Earl (my father), Percy, Gordon and Harry. Did your Mum also move to Ontario in the early 1900s?
