Looking for information about Byassee family from Lynchburg, Va.
My ggrandmother, Julia Emma Byassee (7/17/1882-8/02/1965) came from the Lynchburg area before moving to the Washington, D.C. area and marrying Thomas Jefferson Mutchler in 1902. Her father was Thomas W. Byassee and her mother was Julia Alice Terry ( I think). They had several children some of whom were Mary (husband-?+Shilby), Janie, Scott, and Edgar (wife-Lucy Robinson). I have information about some of them. Thomas W. Byassee was in the confederate army and was buried in Arlington Cemetery. His wife died when the children were young. I have not been able to find out any information about their lives in Southern Va. Any one able to help?

Re: Looking for information about Byassee family from Lynchburg, Va.
Thanks so much for your interest. I haven't a clue who Thomas W.'s parents are. I have found a Thomas Byassee in the 1860 census both on page 50 and 66 for the county of Meckenburg, Va. On page 50, the Thomas Byassee,16, lives with several siblings and his mother, Martha E. Byassee. On page 66 which was taken a week later, there is a Thomas Byassee,17, who is a farm laborer. I tend to think they are one and the same as it is possible he had a bithday around then and moved out of the house. He was born in 1846 approx. I have found out that Thomas lived by himself most of his life other than during his short marriage (his wife passed away some time in the 1890's) and did unskilled work. He was buried in the Confederate section of Arlington Cemetery in 1922. Very little is known about any of his children and their families. Most of what I know has been through research on the internet. I don't think there were many Byassees back in the 1840 from southern Va. I don't know when the family arrived in Va. and what their relationship might be to all the Byassess in Tenn.

Re: Looking for information about Byassee family from Lynchburg, Va.
Re: Thomas Byassee of Mecklenburg. Parents: WILLIAM BYASEE & MARTHA E. HARRIS married: 26 January 1836 Mecklenburg. 1840 census: Wm H Byasee West District, Mecklenburg, Virginia. Grandparents were probably: "Byasea", John & Milley Russell, 21 Dec. 1807, Theophilus Russell sec. The name gets mispelled more than any, making it even harder to find. My ancestor was John H. Byassee of Lunenburg, (next to Mecklinburg) who moved to Hickman, Kentucky. His son Peter moved to Tennessee and had a bunch of kids and grandkids. So few Byassees, sure we are both related to John Byassee and Eddy Westbrook married Lunenburg abt. 1776. There was a John Byasse who arrived at Charles City via ship in 1711.
