Hi:

I'm Ken (Budd) Snell. My Mom is Maxine Joanne Byassee, daughter of (Finus) Loyd Byassee, grand - daughter of Edgar John (John Edgar?) Byassee.

I'm working in the Louisville, KY area for a while (May - September) and would like to know if there are any local Byassee's to chat with or meet.

RSVP to my email or post to message board.

Regards,
Budd

Neva was the 8th of 14 children. During the depression, Neva’s father moved the family from a farm in Tennessee to a farm in Deering, Missouri and then to Detroit, MI where her father and some of her brothers worked for Ford Motor company and Neva attended school. When Ford had a lay off, the family returned to Missouri. There Neva was active in her local Methodist church and Epworth League.
When Neva was 21 her mother died and Neva raised her four youngest siblings and a niece and a nephew. During WWII, Neva worked as a Riveter for Curtis Wright Aircraft in St. Louis, MO.
When some of the brothers and sisters moved to California, Neva joined them in Sacramento, where she got a job as a Hosiery Mender for Hales Department store. At Hales, Neva met her future husband, John Wesley Swaim and the two were married at their Methodist church in 1947.
After marriage, Neva was a stay-at-home mom until her children were out of high school. She then worked as a cook, first in a nursing home, then for the Head Start program, and finally for the Wells Fargo Bank Cafeteria on Capital Avenue, where she retired.
Neva continued to be active at Central United Methodist church, where she first ran the nursery, and later worked as a greeter and belonged to a Women’s circle. She faithfully participated in the church bake sales and loved to bake cakes, pies and cookies for bake sales and coffee hours until age 90.
Neva also loved to garden and to sew and make quilts and left many beautiful quilts for her family.
She was predeceased by her husband, John Swaim. She is survived by three sisters, Dell Brown of Oakland, Ca, Billie Jean Sawyer of Denton, TX, and Myra DeGinther, of Little Rock, AK. She leaves behind her three children, Martha Swaim Wycoff, Louis Swaim, and Nanci Swaim Jones. She also has a grandchild, Emma Styles Swaim and three step-grandchildren, Dr. Susan Wycoff Sharma, Donnie Wycoff, Monique Wycoff and many nieces and nephews.
