Hi
Sidney Gordon Byard was my great grandfather & he was married twice. First in 1905 to Eva Coe who died in 1919, in the flu epidemic after WW1 (where he won the DCM).
His 2nd wife was Selina Turner (known as Lena) whom he married in 1920, my father knew her as his grandmother.
I hope this helps.

Hi,

When I was a child Sid and Lena were close friends of my parents. I have some happy memories of times spent in their company and I met one of Sid’s sons, by then well into middle age himself, when I was about age 12.

One memory which affected me quite profoundly was when Sid, in conversation with my farther (who was in WW2) recounted briefly some details of his experiences in WW1, in particular about the treatment of underage soldiers who had enlisted and were charged with cowardice, crucified ( tied to a fence) before being executed. I do not recal the detail of his brief account, but I do remember how deeply the treatment meted out to these young boys appalled him.

Sid died in 1971/2 and Lena in 1973. I am sure his decendents have every reason to be proud of him.

Kind regards

Dr Malcolm Richardson
