I have information on a Nathan E. Byam born March 1872 in Clinton, Iowa, I believe his parents were Edward D. Byam and Suzan Hopkins, however I can not find any infromation on them. I am also having trouble finding any Byam's in Iowa.
I would appreciate any information, specific or general. Thanks.

Hello -- I have a Byam genealogy book and will look in it to see if I can find any references for you. Can't check until this evening. Hope I can help.

At the Veterans Home Cemetery, Retsil, Washington, a Commodore Perry Byam is buried. Records show that he was born in Illinois, but served in an Iowa regiment during the Civil War. He was living at Mt. Vernon, Iowa and was 12 years old when he enlisted as a Drummer on 22 Aug 1862. He served with Co. D, 24th Iowa Infantry until he was discharged for disability at Vicksburg, Mississippi on 26 Jul 1863.

Linda Byam mentioned that she has a Byam genealogy book. I would like to get more information from Linda about this book. Thanks!

I have a book, privately published, written by a Colby Byam in the 1970s. I discovered it at the Adams Library, Chelmsford Massachusetts. I do not know if other genealogical libraries have it, but would be glad to look up some entries for you if you cannot find a copy. Send me your query, and if you include an address, I'll copy relevant pages and mail to you. Linda Byam

I found a geneology of the Jamieson family, that was posted by Christine Byam. It gave her address and I wrote to her, as she had some of the information wrong, and I wondered if she happened to be related to the Jamieson line. Her address was in Raymond, Alberta, Canada, but my letter was returned saying she had moved. Is there anyway that would be in your book? My grandfather was William Crawford Jamieson and my grandmother was Margaret Anne Faulkner. Would sure like to find some of the family, cousins and such.

There are a lot of Byam descendants in Iowa. Three children of Oliver Hale Byam came to Iowa between 1856 and 1870, Philander, Seth Olver, and Jeanett Byam Powers. Oliver Hale came as well before he died. Most of these Byams were in the Linn, Delaware, and Jackson Co. area. Other Byams also were here at time of Civil War and enlisted from Iowa. Have you checked the CW enlistment records?

I also have a privately published book titled "Descendants of George Byam (?-1680)" by Edwin Colby Byam published in 1975. My husband is a descendant. Feel free to contact me. scclark@starfishnet.com

I am another Linda Byam. I remember my parents being contacted by Edwin Byam (in the 60's?) about the family tree, but we never saw the book. My grandfather was George Lytton Byam and I believe his father or grandfather was William Jesse Byam. The name McNaughton fits in somewhere, too. I'd like to know more about the lineage and if we're related to the Chelmsford, MA Byams.

Well Linda, if you are a twin sister to Laura and your father's name is William, you are all in "the Book" and indeed related to George. Please e-mail me scclark@starfishnet.com. I have been trying to put the whole book on PAF but have only gotten to page 160 out of 427 pages. When I am done I could (when I figure out how to) send you all of the information or only yours, whichever you want. Thanks for responding. Carole
