Valentine Butsch died 1905 Colorado

I am not related to this family...

Longmont Ledger (Longmont, Boulder County)
Feb 24, 1905
Boulder Newspaper Man Dead
Denver, Feb 18, 1905--A Boulder dispatch yesterday says: After an illness covering a period of over two years, Valentine Butsch, one of the proprietors of the Daily Camera, died this morning at 3:30 o'clock, aged seventy-seven.
Mr. Butsch was born in Bavaria and came to this country when fourteen years old. He was married fifty-two years ago, his widow and five children surviving him. The children are Mrs. Dickinson of Indianapolis, Indiana; Mrs. M. M. Blake of Denver, Mrs. F. V. Kirk, Mrs. L. C. Paddock, wife of the editor of the Camera, and Charles Butsch of Boulder.
Mr. Butsch came to Boulder in 1878 from Indianapolis, Indiana, where he was at one time very wealthy. After coming to Boulder he was interested in smelting and milling in Lake and Boulder counties. He bought the Camera in 1892 and ran it successfully. He was appointed the postmaster of Boulder by President Cleveland during the latter's first term, at the request of Vice President Thomas A. Hendricks, and served five years. He also serviced some time as justice of the peace and police magistrate of Boulder.

find-a-grave 11101970

Mathias Buntsch (Butsch) 1677-1734

This is a long shot, because of the dates, but here goes.... MATHIAS BUNTSCH (Butsch) was my husband's 5th Great Grandfather. His parents were ANDREAS BUNTSCH and MARIA MOßER. According to my findings (Ortssippenbuch of Oberweier), Mathias was born and died in Oberweier, Lahr, Baden Germany... 1677-1734. He married SALOME(a) WITTMANN (Widmann) in 1705/06 in Friesenheim Baden Germany. They had at least 12 children.
One of their children, MARIA THERESIA (1726-1804) married a Jakob Grieshaber. One of their children, MARIA HELENA (1752-1820) married a MICHAEL HAAS (1736-1815).... etc, etc.

If anyone is familiar with the above BUNTSCH(Butsch), WITTMANN(Widmann) lines, PLEASE, PLEASE contact me directly.

cjhaas@man.com

Louis Schwab was an ancestor of mine. He is my mother's great grandfather. The Abbey in Mt. Angel purchased their property from the Schwabs. Louis and his family moved to Mt. Angel because they heard that the Benedictine's were coming and in Iowa the Catholic church and schools were too far away. I believe all of the 'founding families' in Mt. Angel have their roots in Bavaria, the area, soil, climate reminded them of home and there was land to be had for pretty cheap.
Hello,
I am researching the Butsch family for my father in law. He is the Great Grandson of Mathias Butsch, born approximately 1830. Mathias and Mary Agatha Krebs had a son Mathias (Mathew) in Ft. Wayne, Indiana in Sept of 1874. My father in law is his grandson and has many memories of his time in Mt. Angel. We are hoping to come up for the Octoberfest this year. I believe I saw a picture you had posted on one of the family members. I am hoping we can make some contacts with relatives while there. Thank you.
Cindy

I know your information is correct, but I found a 1880 census on Ancestry.com for a Matthew Butsch abt 1830, who was living in Abiqua, Oregon(the Abiqua river is very near Mt. Angel. The other household members were: Mary 48, Joseph 21, John 19, Henry 17,Frank 14 (these 4 children match the names and ages that you have listed) also Mary 12,
Rosa 11, Christina 11, Mathus 6. Could this census be him and his family? Did Agatha ever go by Mary?

Butsch ancestors in Germany

I am researching my paternal surname. "My" Butsch ancestors came to the USA from Flomersheim, in the Rheinpfalz region of Germany, in May of 1840. After arriving in New York City, they migrated directly to Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana, where many descendants still reside. I would like to get back earlier than Johann/John Butsch (1787-1863). If anyone can help, please e-mail me.

His wife was Augusta, both from Germany, and they had six children, all born in NY, from 1850's.
Anna, thereasa, william, gertrude, ernest, and caroline. Ernest was my ancestor, who was later known as Fetter.
They lived in NY/Brooklyn. August was a Carpenter, and they show up on the 1880 Census.
I have no info on anyone, besides Ernest. Are any of these related to you?
Carol

Thank you for your reply to my message. My father, Richard Butsch, grew up in Mt. Angel. Henry Butsch is my great grandfather. Mathias Butsch, father of Henry Butsch, of Mt. Angel is my great-great grandfather.
However, it would not make sense for Mathias to be born in 1859 as indicated in your message. That would make him three years old when your grandfather was born.

I also found a website showing a ship registry showing a Mathias Butsch (25 years old, farmer) departed Baden Germany in June of 1854 for the Port of New York. See
http://istg.rootsweb.com/v4/1800v4/othyen18540623.html The year of his birth was more likely 1829 or so.

David, I have Mathias Butsch as born on March 9, 1859 in Wurterburg, Germany. He married Pauline (Ashley) Butsch. They had a son, John H. Butsch, in 1861 who was my grandfather. However, I don't have any information indicating that they had another child so maybe we are not talking about the same Mathias Butsch. The Mathias Butsch who was my great-grandfather was the "founder" of Mt. Angel, Oregon in 1878.

Mathias Butsch

I am researching Mathias Butsch (1829-1882). Mathias was born in Wurttemberg, Germany and he was credited as being the founder of Mount Angel, Oregon. I believe he was my great-grandfather and than one of his children, John, was my grandfather. Mathias was married twice. His first wife was Pauline Ashley and his second wife was Agatha Kribs. I am wondering if John was the son or Pauline or Agatha. If anyone knows anything about Mathias and his descendants please e-mail me. Thanks.

Looking for spelling of Great Grandmother Frances Beuts. who was married to Wendelin Sattler. My Grandmother Magdalena Sattler Vetter pronounced it in German and it sounded like Beuts but that is not correct. Anyone have an idea on this? Could it have been Butsch?
