Yes, I am definitely interested in sharing info about the Butmans. I believe that Alexander Butman, b 1805 may have been the father of my John Turner butman b 1825 in Otsego Co, NY

John's death certificate says that his father was "Alexander Butman" but I can find no record of him in any census, so I am gathering that he may have
a. escaped the censuses
b. moved
c. perhaps not been married when he had his son?? but their names are both Butman,
d. may be using his middle name when his first name was something else.
Can you think of any other possibilties?

Have you done your DNA testing? It would be interesting if we had people comparing DNA who were descended from Butmans.
Write me!!
Our Clarence Butman was born in Rochester, 1885; his parents were Arthur & Hattie Butman -- that's all the information I've been able to find...we don't know when he died. He was older than Grace by about 15 to 20 years. It may take more time to find it, but maybe we do share a link!

Anne and others,
I am looking for information about Polly (or Molly) Butman. The Ebenezer Pool papers of Rockport/Sandy Bay have a half dozen references to my known relative, Esrom Morse. (There appear to be three or more generations of Esrom Morses. The one I am seeking was born in 1791 and his father, also Esrom, "died at sea" the following year.
I have no certain information about his mother, but there are three of the six references to Esrom (b. 1791) give his mother as Polly Butman. Two of the three references have the first letter "corrected" to a "P". By the way, the Pool Papers are a typewritten transcription from the original which I have not seen as yet.
Vol 4, p 147 references a daughter of John and Mary Baker Rowe who was born in Rockport (then Sandy Bay) in 1748 and married to Eleazer Butman "supposed of the Beverly portion of the Butman family--John Butman of Salem had 2 sons, Moses settled in Beverly and John in Annisquam near head of Lobster Cove. In Rockport, July 14, 1767, Molly Rowe was mrd by Rev. Ebenr Cleaveland to Eleazer Butman--their children were Joseph and Nancy, b 1777, Joseph and Mary dtr. of Daniel and Mary Rowe, 1791. He left no son--*P*olly was the mother of Ezrom Morse and Nancy Butman (when quite aged) was mr'd to Wm. Haskell..."
Later Molly Butman is mentioned as a widow remarrying in 1786.
The above quoted portion is quite vague and disjointed. The *P* is one of the instances where the letter is written into an erasure or blank space.
Based on the information herein can you fill me in on any more information about Polly/Molly. My next trip to Rockport Library I will check the index under Butman. The genealogy materials are available on Monday afternoon and there's a gen. group that meets Monday evenings.

Zebulon Butmans from Essex and Middlesex Counties in MASS.

There was a Zebulon Butman b 10 Apr 1737 in Beverly who I have seen married an Elizabeth. The best I can figure or guess is that they had these children:
1. maybe a William b l760 and a
2. Zepaniah b l765 -70
3. Elizabeth b 19 Jul 1767
4. Mary b 5 Dec l769
5. Zebulon b 21 Sep l774
6. John b 21 March l777

The son Zebulon, b l774, listed above in Dracut, Middlesex Co., MA.
Can you tell me if this is a complete list of children of the older Zebulon and who each married, their children, etc.
Also, who did the younger Zebulon marry? I desperately need to know this family better. It, I believe, leads me into the Connecticut Butmans.
Son, John, above b in l777 was either born in Dracut or in Killingly, Ct. This John m. Olive Ballou and had the following children: Eliza, Erie, Jesse, John, William Ballou, Nathan Place Butman, and Olive. Ever heard of them? My Alexander Butman, my earliest-known ancestor, was b in CT, and I have yet to find him. Any help would be appreciated. Alexander was b ca l800. He had a son, John Turner Butman, in Otsego Co., Ny in l825. Canyou anyone tell me more about any of these individuals?
They lived in Chittenango, NY. I am not sure if this is the same Grace Butman, but she was born in the early 1900's. She was a school teacher.

"No more wooin' sight-unseen. I'm
going to do my courtin' in person hereafter." Jones
recalled a previous misadventure as a result of a
"mail order" proposal.

"I joined a matrimonial bureau in Aberdeen, Wash.,
and pretty soon I heard from a girl in Willmar, Minn,"
he said. "She looks good, but the feller I hired to
drive me up to get her gives her a wink behind my
back and the next thing I know they're headed back
across the line to get married."

Grace Butman & Evelyn Nellinger

Trying to find descendants/researchers of Grace and her sister, Evelyn, who were daughters of Charles H. and Mabel (Perkins) Savage (my great-aunt). Grace was born (probably near Rochester, Monroe County, NY) about 1910-1911. I learned her married name through her uncle's (my great-uncle) William Ralph Perkins' will, so at the time of his death in 1945, she'd already married a Butman. I'm at a dead-end researching my Perkins/Savage/Butman lines, and believe that while Grace may have passed on, she left children behind or at least someone from the family who's researching the family. Thanks so much -- I look forward to hearing from anyone! Kay Barritt
