The original post now 5½ years old... perhaps someone has some new information.

I am also searching for information on this same George Henry Burtis.

The 1850 census shows him living alone at age 15 in Keokuk, Lee, Iowa.

The 1856 census has him in Davenport, Scott, Iowa.

Marraige to Elvira Elizabeth Clark on 24 Mar 1857.

1870 Census (Buffalo, Scott Co., Iowa) lists children Andrew, Henry, Mary, Harriet (Andrew appears to be adopted, based on age and birth location of parents given in 1880 census).

1880 Census (Buffalo, Scott Co., Iowa) lists children Andrew, Hattie, Samuel, Jenny May, Burney B.

George is listed as being born in Illinois on each census.
1880 census lists father's birth location as New York, mother's as Missouri.

The 1880 census (Buffalo, Scott Co., Iowa) also lists the death of a Louisa Burtis, age 69, Widow, b. Missouri, father's birth location unknown, mother's birth location Missouri.

Louisa Burtis also appears in the 1860 census (Davenport, Scott, Iowa), residing with Antoine and Margaret LeClaire. Both Margaret (58) and Louisa (47) are listed as being born in Missouri.

There is a marriage record for the following couple:
Stephen H. Burtis m. Louisa Dolphin, 19 Sep 1833. Hancock Co., IL. It is possible that these are the parents of George Henry Burtis, but I have nothing to connect them yet - only dates and places that match up.

Any additional information would be greatly appreciated.
