I can trace my history back to John Burtenshaw (1733-1809) from Shenley, Hertfordshire. Was married to Ann Sharp. That is my most distant ancestor in the Burtenshaw line. I have seen many others who are also researching this line, but they don't usually cite their sources, so I am reluctant to accept their findings.

Tonight I found several listing of Burtenshaw's in the Criminal Records, but there isn't enough information to connect those references to a known family. For the decendants who emigrated to the US (William Burtenshaw 1828-1892, married: Catherine Woods) I have a good bit of information.
