I found this while snooping around on a Civil War site:

Jan 01 1863 (Thursday) New Year's Day

Earlier in the week, Colonel Isaac Burrell landed a small occupying force at Galveston, Texas. Not having enough men, Burrell can only control the city during the day, "at night, owing to our small force..., I am obliged to draw in the pickets to the wharf on which we are quartered." Taking advantage of the situation, "Prince John" Magruder launches a combined land and sea attack, utilizing two cotton-clad steamers and his newly trained "marine cavalry."

I had snail-mailed info on a AfroAmer Burrell family to a woman in Washington St several years ago who is a keeper of all things Burrell and all various spellings and races of Burrell. I am not researching the name of Burrell.
