Very hard to find anything out - apparently only single-digit numbers of them.

Here's one:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Burkitt_(judge)

There's also no information at all on how they ended up in Ireland (before India). They apparently moved from England in the late 1600's or 1700's.

Anyone out there know anything about them?

Thanks.

Dismissed from the company in 1889 for marrying a young girl put in his care for the voyage from London to Queensland Australia. Took his own life January 1900 . I would like to know , what was the girls maiden name that he married , what was the name of her fiancé (a doctor ) in Queensland who had enough standing to get him fired . If anyone can put me on the right track with names and dates I'll always be in your debt

Just saw your post Mathew. It would in interesting if any of your ancestors were of Haddenham. There were Burkitt's in Cottenham but not sure how related. I know their is indication of some Burkitt names in Haddenham in about 1900. For example: In the 1900's on Hop Row street in Haddenham ..
Steel, windmill maker/electrical shop/antiques: Poole, general stores: Wright the barber/ladies hairdresser: Burkitt, cycle repairer: Burkitt, threshing tackle works/ Mclarens Garage/Manchetts Garage.
Wood sales were held in the Three Kings Yard: Peter Steel, nurseryman, Hovell, saddler.
Jerry

Have finally tracked my Burkitt/Burkett family back to the town of Burkittsville, Maryland. My great grandfather Charles Edward Burkitt's death certificate lists his place of birth (in 1871) as Burkittsville, Maryland as well as listing his father, also named Charles E. Burkitt (born 1849), as being born in Burkittsville too. I found them in the 1850 census living in Petersville - which is right next to Burkittsville. This census shows Charles, his wife Elizabeth, and children Almira (1839), George C. (1841), Mary E. (1842), John H. (1845), Ezra (1847), and my great great grandfather Charles E. W. (1849). Does anyone out there have any of these Burkitts in their family tree?

I would appreciate any info and hope to make some connections. Thanks!

My grandfather, Hayes Burkitt, has a son, Carroll Burkitt, born in Burkittsville, Maryland, USA!! This is not a joke! One of my nieces, bored w/her job as a Fed govt. lawyer, traced us back to English kings (of course). Would love to hear from Genealogy hobbyists.

Best wishes,
John Carroll Burkitt
jdburkitt@yahoo.com

Brenda,
I am also a great-great-granddaughter of James Polk Burkitt/Burkett who is buried at Jacob's Chapel Cemetery near Orchardville, Wayne Co., IL. In your 05-19-05 posting, you list only two children of his and Mary (Shelton) Burkitt's union. I believe my great-grandmother, Martha (Burkett) Helm was also their daughter. My father always spoke of his great-grandfather as Jim Polk Burkett. My background on them is hazy, but my parents said they believed he had three wives. The only marker at his grave is his Civil War marker; I would very much like to see his muster papers you mentioned. If you don't mind, please scan them and email to me. Thank you.
I am researching the same Burkitt family. My maternal grandmother was Janetta Burkitt, sister of Elsie, Eva, Catharine Hannah, Herbert (went to USA) and Laura. Their grandfather was the same Richard Burkitt, who was born in 1830, died in 1884. He married twice, his first wife was Catherine Robinson, whose children were all those mentioned above ! Richard Burkitt married again to Ann Meek Strawson who was born in Stickford, Lincs.

I do have a great deal of paperwork re. the Burkitt family, and am most interested to learn more about your side of the family. All I know about Joseph Strawson Burkitt was that he married Gertrude White ?, was born 19.2.1875, and went to New Zealand quite early in life.

I look forward to hearing from you - do let me know if you would like copies of the family tree !

I have checked all the information I have, and can fill in some more details for you: Richard Burkitt, who married Ann Meek Strawson, had the following brothers and sisters: William (Captain), 1831-1890, Elizabeth, b. 1833, George, b. 1834, Joseph Reynoldson, b. 1835, Harriet Heneage b. 1837, Sarah, (died infant), John Heneage & Thomas Scott twins. Mary Adlard, b. 1847, Anne, b. 1849 and Alice b. 1851.
Their parents were Joseph Reynoldson Burkitt 1807 - 1869 (he married Harriett Heneage Adlard of Addlethorpe, Lincs). Joseph R. was the son of Richard Burkitt whose year of birth I do not know, but he married in 1788 at Louth (to Ann Scott). This Richard was the son of Richard Burkitt who married Ann, his dates were 1720 - 1803. That is the earliest record I have.

I do hope this is not too confusing !

Hi, I have read your message regarding your research into Burkitts. I have a great deal of information given to me by a Great Aunt, all relating to Burkitts who settled in Lincolnshire possibly at the end of 17th century. Richard Burkitt (1720 - 1803) married Ann, a Roman Catholic, and they lived at Grimblethorpe Hall, nr Louth. Their children were Richard (who died in 1832), Sarah and Elizabeth. If these names tie up with your family, or you can email further details to me, I can contact you again. Many thanks. Helen

Greetings!
My name is Linda Sydeski. SS# 170-12-9348

Erdene Burket DOB Nov. 10, 1913 DOD March 26, 2000 S# 159-12-2600

I believe they went to a Lutheran Church

They had two children Darla and Scott

That is all I know....ANY resources you can suggest would be greatly appreciated!! I just don’t even know where to begin. Hopefully if I can find resources for obituaries that would help. Thanks again!
Linda Sydeski
Ripley, WV
James Polk Burkitt/Joseph Burkitt

I am the great great granddaughter of James Polk Burkitt and Mary Burkitt. They were parents to Winnifred, and of son Joseph Burkitt who married Alice Coil. Joseph and Alice had TEN children, Obe, Raymond, Pearl, Winnie, Dessie, Maimie, Eldridge, Terry, Earl and James. I have received James Civil War muster papers, and discovered that he had a brother also named Joseph who served with him, both listed as farmer's. They resided in Wayne County Illinois, to be precise, Orchardville. My own mother was born in Orchardville to Pearl, the youngest child of Joseph Burkitt and Alice Coil.

If you have any additional information, please contact me at the above email! We could be family.

Thank you
