Josephine Nelson would have been a great aunt to me. My father's mother was a Burket. I seen Josephine married to Isaac on the Census. My father who could remember Fred and Carl Nelson but wasn't sure how the Nelson last name fit into the family. I had figured out Josephine married a Nelson. On the census it does list John Frederick as a stepson to Isaac. I do know that Josephine divorced Isaac Nelson and married a Cyrus Shaulis.
What I can figure out from the census is that in 1900 Josephine and Isaac are listed and Fred's a baby. In 1910 they are on the census again and Emma is 4. By 1920, Isaac's gone and Fred is now living with a George and Annie Burket, Annie being Emma's Aunt.
Because Emma and Fred are now living seperately leads me to believe Josephine is now deceased.
But I could be wrong because Emma might have been helping out in the house as Emma's Aunt Sadie is widowed very young and had a bunch of small children. Anways, in 1920 Emma is now living with the Widow Sarah Jane Barnhart-Burket, she was listed as a grandchild to Sarah as she was head of household. This is where I lose Emma. Fred or John Frederick marries a Ada and they have a son Frederick Carl and a daug Thelma.
I do have a lot of information on the Burket's but if you have information in Emma I would love to have it. Any photos of Emma and her mother? Josephine had a sister, Sarah, we called her Aunt Sadie. Sadie is buried in Grandview and I was just there in October taking a bunch of headstone shots. Josephine also had a sister Dora and she too is buried in Grandview. I do have a family photo and there are two girls that I am not sure of in this photo.
My grandmother inherited the photo and one of the other girls inherited what they might call a proof photo and just this past October I met with Josephines great nephew who lives in Berlin and he had a copy of the proof that was used to paint the portrait that my family has!
I wonder if anyone would recognize her say from another photo that Emma's family might have had?
Again, any information you have on Josephine and Emma I would love to have. I'm hoping that Emma or someone from Emma's family had kept good family records. Michelle Prato-Hamel
