Looking for descendants of Harry Burd and Florence Stuck and Genevieve Ewart.
Harry had two wives and two sets of children and I am looking for anyone of either family still living. His children's names would be Raymond, Dorothy, Katherine, Kenneth, and Donna. I know that Katherine (Perry)died young but had three children, Dorothy married a Showalter, Donna married a Mr. Wagner first, then a Mr. Hummer and may still be living, Kenneth died in 2014. There have been postings by Linda Burd Belt who is a granddaughter to Harry Burd. Linda if you are still out there in genealogy cyberspace my aunt and I would very much like to hear from you. I have tried a number of avenues to reach you. Are you descended from Raymond?

I am looking for more complete information on David Burd. My ancestry goes back to a John Burd (b. about 1780 in NJ, d. after 1860 in PA, married to Eleanor Reynolds). A relative and I have a hunch that David Burd may be this John Burd's father, but we can't find any evidence to support this. I would welcome any information that might prove or even disprove our hypothesis.

Hi! We have communicated re Burd. He is my ?3x gt grandfather. I'm really interested in this info. If I understand; Bertram was a 28 year old convict in 1739, married Hannah in NY and died in1745 in NY. He could be the grandfather of Bart, but if he's the same Bartholomew landowner 1740, he could not be the same landowner 1749 and 1753 and his child would still be a minor to be owner. Also the land was in PA, not NY. Bart was born probably in NJ.So I would think Bart may be related to the Bartholomew PA landowner and the Bertram/ Bartholomew is different . Just my thoughts.
The Pennsylvania Gazette of March 6, 1740 has an ad offering a reward for the return of "a convict servant man named Bartholomew Bird." He ran away from John Senhoufe of the City of Annapolis in Maryland and ran away December 26th, 1739. He was around 28 years old and a shoemaker by trade. This must be the same Bertram Bird who was transported on the Sea Nymph arriving in Maryland in June of 1739. In 1753 there is a Bartholomew Bird on the taxables list of East Caln, PA in 1753. Just a few more clues on Bertram alias Bartholomew Burd.

Hi, I recently was able to get some scan of some old tintype photos that had belonged to my great grandmother, Mary Burd Lee.

Some of them are labeled and those that are seem to be part of her paternal grandparents' family - that of Simeon and Mary Hults Burd and their children. They raised a large family in Madison County, Iowa. I'm trying to identify the remaining photos and am wondering if anyone from this family might have some that were marked or labeled so that I could ID the ones I have. The tintypes were of the parents and various kids in the family.

Thanks,

Angie Jameson
(descendant of Lester H Burd)

I sure wish that I did know where he originated. The name James Burd in PA is like Olson in Minnesota. I started my search before I joined Ancestry by going through about a thousand pages on Google. As you know there is a famous Revolutionary War hero James Burd in Pennsylvania. That was about all that I could find there. I don't know if my James Burd was ducking the law or what but there just isn't anything in the family history except His birth year and that he was from Pennsylvania I spent all day today going through about every possible census report for both Burd and Bird. There is a bunch of James Burds out there. My only hope is that someone has some family history or just family stories about old uncle James Burd going to Ohio and marrying a Reichert girl from LLycoming and moving out west.
Thanks for the come back on my message
Dave Gruger .

I am trying to find information on my G Grandfather with very little to go on. From the family I know he was born in Penn in 1855. That is it. I found that he married my G Grandmother, Mary Salina Reichert in or near Tiffin, Ohio in 1880 from an Ohio Marriage site. He moved his family to Washington, lived in Auburn and Seattle. He died in 1901 in Seattle. He died of stone cutters consumption. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
David Gruger

Hi Rita! Nice to hear from you. Yes, I have that record of Bertram alias Bartholomew Burd. . . notice he came at the exact time as a George Bird, whom I think was his brother. Also, at one point I found a marriage record from NY for Bertram Bird and a Hannah. Also, there here is a land record for a Bartholomew Bird in West Caln, Penn in 1749, really just a stone's throw over to the Hunterdon/Morris County area in NJ. (about a 1 hr drive). I'm thinking it's the same Bartholomew, but no record of George anywhere. It very well may have been a grandfather, as the dates fit. If we could get a male descendant of Bart's, it would help. Good luck!

Re: Bartholomew Burd

Ok, ladies, I have a half-baked theory...There is a Bertram alias Bartholomew listed as coming to this country on the Sea Nymph, traveling from April to June of 1739, landing in Maryland. This Bertram aka Bartholomew Bird was a convict from Middlesex sentenced to transportation for the crime of "stealing a Watch, with an out-side Case made of Base Metal mixed, and an in-side Case made of Gold, val. 39 s. the Goods of William Lambert , Mar. 16 . Guilty , Felony." The site I got this from is http://www.oldbaileyonline.org/browse.jsp?id=t17390607-34-de....

So, what if that is our Bartholomew's father or grandfather and perhaps he didn't find out his father was a convict until he was an adult. That would explain why he never spoke of his father or recorded any information about him. I see a record as well of 1745 New York Letters of Administration - Bertram Bird intestate Hannah Bird as administrator. If this means he died in 1845, then I would assume this is a grandfather and not a father and perhaps he was named after him before it was known that he was a convict. It would also explain why no one else ever used that name in the "Burd/Bird" line. Hannah could be mother, daughter, sister, etc. Found that on ancestry.com.

Obviously, this is a bit of a stretch, but it seems possible. Please send me your thoughts!
Re: Bartholomew Burd

The only record of Bart (he was called that) & Sarah's marriage is in the compiled records of FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, MORRISTOWN, NJ VOL 1. I went through that whole book. . .lots of generations of Pruddens/Lyons/Condicts/Coes/Riggs (all family names kind of related to each other) but no Burds/Birds until around 1800, and no record of any Burds/Birds but there are some Birds buried in the cemetery, younger than Bart, but could not find any connection to Bart. In that same volume is Sarah's birth & her parents. There just seems to be no record of where Bart was born, and his date is often recorded differently, from 1766 to 1772. There's an old rumor that his father was killed in the war and Bart was "adopted" by George Washington and may have been raised in one of his homes near Morristown. There is record of the Washington's attending the Presbyterian church there in Morris Town but again, no Burds when the Washingtons were there. Bart and Sarah's children are listed as being christened in the Presbyterian church in Morristown, and the fact that the whole family of Pruddens were some of the original members of that church (early 1700's), I think it's a good possibility that they were married there. Some records for Bartholomew say he was born in Warren Cty, NJ (Hanover area) another says he was born in Trenton, no official records though. Elisha Burd (wife Catherine Ringo) was living in the Hanover area in 1700's I have not been able to tie him with Bart Burd. I think there's an early 1800 census showing Bart and Sarah living in that area too, it's not far from the church. Morristown broke off from that township. There are no records of Bart owning property in Morristown proper, only his son, Lewis Alfred (my ancestor). Both Bart and Sarah died in Dayton, Ohio and buried there, along with daughter Sarah Emily who stayed close to her parents. Ironically, Sarah's tombstone spells her last name BIRD not BURD, may have been the recorder's error. There have been very serious BURD researchers over the past 30 years with whom I've communicated, some have lived in New Jersey, there just seems to be a lack of information about Bart's origin. I've always been interested that one of Bart's daughters married into the Condict family, probably one of the most prominent families in that whole area. Bart married into the Prudden family, another prominent family, but Bart seems to be pretty low key, although he's listed on the registry in the Christian Remembrance with Lewis Condict, both from Morristown.

Looking for information on Fred Burd born around 1881. He married Jessie Rennie and had five children, Clarence, Grace, Hellen and Fred Jr. They lived in Pennsylvania.

Our family story says that Fred either ran away or left home around the age of 16. I have found no information on his birth, death or parents. I have found census information from 1910, 20, 30 and 40 and a possible WWII draft registration.

I would especially like information on when/where he was born and who his parents are.

There has in the last 20 years been a small group of descendants looking for the parents of Bart Burd, he just suddenly appears in New Jersey with no traceable lineage. I have a whole file on him, but still no clue who his parentage is. Please let me know what you are looking for. The only clue I've ever had was a Bartholomew Bird living in Chestertown Penn under rent rolls in about 1740. This possibly could have been his father and its close to his area in New Jersey. Let me know if I can help you. Cheryl
momcher1@msn.com

Re: BURD from Wales, settled in Kansas

I have not researched this family for a number of years. The information I have is that John Burd was born in 1842 in Wales; he married Harriet Groves in, probably, Wales. He was a son of Richard Burd, born 1811 in Wales, and Elizabeth Owens, born 1814 in Newtown, Powys, Wales.

Harriet Groves was born in February 1849 in England. They came to Kansas, USA, some time after the birth of their daughter Fanny who was born in 1870 in Wales. They had several more chidren besides Fanny (more than I knew about when I first posted that query): Muriel born about 1873, Robert J. born Oct. 1882, and Elizabeth or Lizzie, born Jan. 1887. There may have been more children but I do not know about them.

I don't recall where I found the information on John and Harriet Burd but it was probably through the LDS site FamilySearch. I am not related to the Burds myself; they are the ancestors of my ex-husband and, of course, of our two grown children.

Nancy Shire
I know all too well how people are searching for information, but there seems to be very little!
When I recently visited the Morristown Library, I read letters on file of people asking for documentation on Bartholomew. No one seemed to have answers.

Specifically, I would like to know if there is any record of his marriage to Sarah Prudden. She was born in Morristown NJ. There was a Bartholomew Burd who fought in the Pennsylvania Insurrection, but I have not found any military records giving any clues to his family.

Anything which provides a tie to Sarah would be appreciated. But if you ever come across more info regarding his birth, I would be grateful if you contacted me!

Thank you!
Susan

I am from the Jacob Bird/Burd, Daniel Burd, Warren Burd, Thomas Greenbury Burd, Claude Burd, Kenneth Burd family. I I have a book "Missouri Burds" which was compiled by a family member, with much info. Unfortunately I do not have it with me at this time. I can tell you about 1846 the Burds moved to Babbtown Osage Co Mo from Blount Co Tenn. Later Great Great Grandfather Warren Burd moved to Long Lane MO.

I am from the Jacob Bird/Burd; Daniel Burd; Warren Burd;Thomas Greenbury Burd/Claud Burd/Kenneth Burd family. I do not have that info in front of me, but I believe it was Daniel who traveled from Blount Co Tennessee about 1846 to Babbtown Osage Co,MO then later Warren ended up in Long Lane MO. I actually have a book that has been compiled called the Missouri Burds.
