BURCH / LANIER

There are some interesting connections between the Burch and Lanier families. Because one of the Lanier & Burch family marriages does not seem to be available or seen in family histories that I have seen, I am posting this message so the info is available to others who are descendants of Charles Burch and Permelia [Pamela] Lanier.

Charles6 Burch (Richard5, William F.4, Samuel3, John2, Richard1) was born March 05, 1804. He married (1) Lottie Bradley March 09, 1826 in Copiah County, Mississippi. She was born September 14, 1806, and died Bet. 1834 - 1835. He married (2) Permelia [Pamela] Lanier April 23, 1835 in most probably Washington Parish, LA, daughter of James Lanier and Clarisa [?] Tillman. She was born January 22, 1808 in St. Tammany Parish, LA, and died April 03, 1862. Permelia [Pamela] Lanier is the granddaughter of Benjamin & Ealiff Lanier, ancestors of many Laniers in Louisiana.

Charles Burch mentioned above is the 2nd great-grandson of John Burch born March 07, 1721/22 in Bristol Parish, VA and Elizabeth Lanier the only daughter of Sampson Lanier and Elizabeth Washington. She was born aft. 1719 in Surry County, VA, and died 1795 in Brunswick County, VA.

Elizabeth Burch, sister of John Burch mentioned above married William Lanier, grandson of Sampson Lanier and Elizabeth Washington. John and Elizabeth Burch are children of Richard and Jane Burch.

Of much interest to me is that Samuel Burch, son of John & Elizabeth Lanier Burch and grandson of Sampson Lanier and Elizabeth Washington left after marriage in NC for the Terri. Of Mississippi where he died in 1779. His descendants are in MS and LA. At the same time the Samuel Burch family was in the same area as his 2nd cousin Benjamin Lanier grandson of John and Elizabeth Bird Lanier. Their descendants, Charles Burch and Permelia [Pamela] Lanier married in LA in 1835.

Permelia [Pamela] Lanier’s sister is Cinderella Lanier who was born 1817 in Washington Parish, LA. She married John Wilson Brumfield, son of John Brumfield and Margaret Kelly. Their daughter [granddaughter of Permelia Lanier Burch] is Melissa S. Brumfield born 1842 in LA.. She married John Richard Burch, Jr. April 25, 1863 in LA, son of John Richard Burch, Sr. and Samantha Clower. He was born January 09, 1832 in the Fisher Community, Louisiana, and died January 15, 1914.
