Hello,

After a few years off I've taken up the search for Buete's and still not make a connection to the origin of the name in Europe. My grandfather was born in NY, married and moved to Australia. However as far as his place of birth, siblings and how the other Buete's in America are related Still eludes us. Given the name is rare and the only concentration of the name is America and Germany is is puzzling.
I am the only Buete (Plus my family) in The country so very rare but terribly hard to find any leads. so as you can imaging when we get an email claiming a relation outside the country we are intrigued

I found a Guiseppe Buete on ship manifest to NY.
1912 > August > 16 > Ivernia > 21, Line 6
age 23, laborer, can not read or write, Italy, Town - Scilla,
Father Antonio Buete, from Italy, Town - Scilla. It looks like Antonio was living in Rego Park, NY.

Hi Guys,

We had a few years in hidding and started the research again and I am thrilled with all the replys. america seems to be the place of Buete's. We are once again the only family by this name in Australia so feel kinda on the fringe of whats happening in America. So far we have the name down and German/Prussian or Italian.

We did come accross this buete in our search by we have another Guiseppe born in the NY and what are the chances of 2 Guiseppe's of similar age. So fat we hit a blank wall we knwo that

Giuseppe father name was Antonio Buete by no birth place
mother's name is Pappina Valde

Giuseppe was married to Dahilia Margherita Caletti but no details of her parents.

I am a Buete from Australia and the only family by that name in the country. we have been trying to locate our origin and by chance our grandfather was born in NY and went by the name of Giuseppe Buete and married to Pappina Valade. If you have any information on these two or a country of origin or anything please let us know.

I came across a Kathleen Buete Sarasota Fl deceased Jan 7th 2004 on GenologyBank.com You can search free on there. I saw it as I am researching the same name only in New York. this one died in 2006.born 1929 NY. the one from florida says birth year 1949. Check it out and it might help you.

Hi Sherri, My name is dottie Pecknay (nee Buete). Kermy was my uncle and Kenny is my cousin. We lost track of Aunt Jean , Kenny and Rainie when they moved to Florida. We have a John Aloysius BUETE, son of John F. BUETE and Nellie Roach FUSE. John Aloysius was born 25 Jun 1890 in Washington DC; died 18 Jul 1964 in DC. John F., born 1860, died 1905 in DC. His parents were Henry BUETE and Eleanor, maiden name unknown. John F. was the second husband of my greatgrandmother, Nellie (above)

Correction, Kathleen A. Tate born 9/27/1942 married Kenneth Buete possibly in Maryland or Washington DC Area. Kathleen's mother's name is Marjorie.

Henrietta and Charles may have come to the US thru NY, so there's hope yet. Other possible ports are Philadelphia PA and Baltimore MD. Check the Immigrant Ships Transcribers Guild site on RootsWeb. You might get lucky!!

The BUETE surname ccomes into our lineage as a "step" family. I came across the information I sent to you just recently by accident while researching another line in DC. Always thought my great-grandmother Nellie married a BUTTE. I probably won't be looking for any more BUETEs, but will pass on what I find while researching the FUSE family.

Since Charles, the baker, was born in Baden according to the census, and Henrietta was born in Prussia, that gives you another avenue. Good luck in your search!

No I don't think so we've come accross a Giuseppe Buete who was born in America in NY in 1923, he is apparently my Great Uncle. Perhaps there is a chance that your name is a variation of mine when the great migration to America.

We are really trying to establish a link from Giuseppe to Europe to see where we came from etc.

Hallo, everyone! I'm looking for information for my boyfriend's family. We haven't got much to start with, but with luck someone out there can give me a good connection :-) His father's name is Kenneth Buete, married to Kathleen Tate (b. Sept 9th I think and d. around January 4th 2004) sometime between 1958 and 1965. Two children- Eric (February 27th approximately 1966) and Gregory Keith Buete on November 27th, 1970. The family moved to Sarasota, Florida from Washington, DC in approximately 1978. Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

Hi, I'm Larry Buete and I live in Australia, At present there are is only 1 family of Buete's living in Australia..and that's us.
We have begun the grand search to locate our families history in Europe and at present we've managed to track back to America. There the trail goes cold. We are looking for any one who may be able to help.
Eventually we hope to get the tree back to its European Origins in Italy.

Did you ever find your BUETE ancestors? Here are some more obits.

The Washington Post, 17 Aug 1905, pg. 2

"Mrs. Nellie B. Buete died at Providence Hospital Tuesday from a complication of diseases, afte an illness of six months. Since the death of her husband last summer, Mrs. Buete resided with her daughter, Mrs. Hoffman, at 700 Myrtle street northeast, where the funeral will be held. Mrs. Buete is survived by five children." (Nellie Roach Fuse BUETE was the wife of John F. Buete.)

(There was no obit for her husband, John F. BUETE. He died in 1904 of acute alcoholism.)

The Washington Post, Times Herald, 19 Jul 1964, pg. B7

"BUETE, JOHN A. On Saturday, July 18, 1964, at Sibley Memorial Hospital, JOHN A. BUETE of 3623 Van Ness st. nw., beloved husband of Lucille Buete; father of John A. Buete and Leslie Sleidel. He also is survived by three grandchildren. Friends may call at Gawler's Chapel, Wisconsin ave. at Harrison st. nw. (Parking on premises.) Mass will be offered at St. Ann's Catholic Church, 4400 Wisconsin ave. nw., on Monday, July 20 at 11:45 a.m. Interment Cedar Hill Cemetery. Washington Post, July 4, 1889: Marriage license issued yesterday to John F. BUETE and Nellie FUSE.

So, it looks like the Anna G. and Charles J. in the Nellie BUETE household in the 1900 DC census were actually FUSE children.

Bland BUETE is actually Blanche.

John BUETE, son of John F. and Nellie, was for many years the service director for Woodward and Lothrup, an upscale department store at 10th and G Streets NW, Washington DC. He made it possible for his niece, Marie AGnes Hoffman Ashford (my aunt and godmother) to work there. She started in the wrapping department as a teen and retired as lingerie buyer.

Thank you for all this information, while that link to my uncle in NY is not there, there is definately a lot of buete's active in America.
This does give us a good starting point and I thank you most sincerly. Ultimately we'd link to know wher in Europe the name came from, we suppect Italy, but the exact location would give my family a sence of place in Europe.
