Looking for family history of Michael Bua and wife Antoinette Passifume who migrated with 2 year old son (Salvadore Bua) from Italy (Trabia?) to Pennsylvania around 1900. Family relocated to Oakland, CA area about 1903. Michael returned to Italy approximately 1920 where he remained.

My grandmother was born Rosaria Bua 5/15/1881 to Leonardo Bua and Francesca Bufalo. She was born in Palazzo Adriano, Sicily. She always says she was an orphan but I am trying to find out if anyone knows anything about the Bua name in Palazzo Adriano. She had one brother, Andrea Bua who also was born in Sicily and died in Chicago in 1957.

Rosalie - Are you sure your grandmother's brother's name was Andrea. Can you provide more information about his family in Chicago? How about your grandmother?

Yes, his name was Andrea. They translated it into Andrew in America. He died in about 1957 but his family of 3 daughters live in Chicago. My grandmother's name was Rosa Bua (Or Rosaria is the name which appears on my mother's birth certificate). But on my grand-mother's birth certificate (which I have a copy of) her birth name was Rosa Bua, the daughter of Leonardo Bua (deceased) and Francesca Bufalo (also deceased). It seems that their mother died in childbirth with my grandmother. Uncle Andrew was older than my grandmother. I am trying to pull the record from the LDS to get a death certificate on their parents. According to the birth cert. she was born in Palazzo Adriano. Does any of your people come from there?

Rosalie - As far as I have been able to determine, my Bua line is from Trabia, near Palermo, Sicily.

I've read the messages. I don't have much to add except as far as I understand, Bua (s) emigrated from Palermo, Sicily to the U.S sometime the late 1800s, early 1900s. I'm not sure how long the name was in Sicily or if it originated in Sicily or elsewhere. At Disneyland, they sell name history. From that source I heard Bua came from they name Bove meaning ox-driver. And has a French decent as well as Sicilian. Thanks
