Dear Juan,
I don't know about the Bua's in Spain - That is really interesting. My family originated (supposedly) from Italy. I am looking for information also about our name. My grandparents came through Ellis Island and spoke little english. We always thought the name was shortened when they went through customs. Your information is the first time I've heard the country Spain mentioned. If you've found out anything since your posting, or if I find out anything (i've responded to another posting form a Bua in California) i'll let you know.

Hello! My last name is Bua also. My grandfather's parents came here from Sicily. He says, however, he is not sure where his earlier ancestors were from, but he does think that his ancestors came from Spain. Sorry I don't remember the reason he gave, but it was a well substantiated one.

through research on line i have been told that the bua name originated from albania. in the late 1800's early 1900's the bua's fled albania to excape the turks. most settled in sicily italy or thereabout. my grandfather and his brother came from sicily around 1930, don't know why the settled in new orleans, but they did. both have passed on since then.

The name Bua originates in Albania some 1000 years ago. There are two Bua families. 1. Bua Spata, Despots of Argyrocastro and 2. Bua Sgouro, Despots of Arta.
They settled in mainly in North and North West Greece (Epirus and Ionian Islands). and through Multiple marriages with Venetians in Italy. One of the oldest known patriarchs Gjin Bua Spata, Despot of Argyrocastro, Arta and Lepante, was married to Princess Helene Preljubovich of Serbia. Their daughter Irene born about 1400 married Esau of Buondenmonti, Despot of Janina.
