I'm looking for more information on Joseph C Brunner and family. He married Maria Louise Schneider in Manhattan 19Jun1887. The certificate notes he is a "detective of the central office". He was born in Bohemia. The certificate gives his parents as John Brunner and Eleonore Gregory. Maria's maiden name was Maria Luise Berger, daughter of Matthias Berger and Sara Kobelin of Eichstetten, Baden. She may have married there or in the US before marrying Joseph. She was living in New Jersey at the time her brother Jacob Berger died in Wisconsin in Sept 1908. Her brother Christian Friedrich (Fred) Berger died in Washington state in May 1907.
Information about the family, or sources of information on NY central office employees appreciated.

Re: Brunner's

I believe that Catherine Brunner who married William Bauer had parents Ignotz and Catherine Rickley Brunner. Ignotz is listed wildly as Notzig, Enos, Aeneas Brunner. Maybe he had a thick accent. Records at St Mary of the Assumption give Kate Rickley or Rickli a date of death as 13 Feb 1918. She was born acc to records everywhere in France, probably Alsace, 20th of Oct 1835 to 1838. 1900 census shows she arrived in 1856. Her father is listed as Anton. Her plot at the cemetery was bought in 1886 by husband Ignatius Brunner. She was burried on Feb 16th She was 84 yrs old. Ignatius Brunner died Feb 11th 1925 burried Feb 14th he was 94 yrs old. DEATH CERTIFICATE FROM PA gives dob as 20 Oct 1838 in France and dod as 13 September 1918 so 80 yrs, 3 months and 24 days. Mary Sheibig daughter gave information. Cause of death was cardiac dilation and Myrecaditis. FUNERAL DIRECTOR WAS JOHN STRITTMATTER.

ST. MARY OF THE ASSUMPTION CHURCHYARDS (German Roman
Catholic): The first churchyard was opened circa 1850 on Oak (now Conarroe) Street west of Silverwood, Manayunk next to the parish church. In 1872 a large tract of ground was purchased on Prospect (now Lemonte) Street in Roxborough for use as a second churchyard. Its consecration occurred on July 13, 1873.~ Records are held at the church rectory
Here are some notes but there seems to be some conflicting information.
1890 city directory listed as Aeneas Brunner living at 140 Levering, Myk with profession of shoes
1910 census says immigrated in 1854. BUT IMMIGRATION RECORDS SHOW NOTZIG BRUNNER ARRIVED PHILADELPHIA 1856. NATURALIZATION RECORDS SHOWED OATH OF ALLEGIANCE TAKEN 1862. And both were French speaking. Had 7 children, 4 still surviving. Married 53 years. NOTZIG BRUNNER LISTED 22 SEP 1856; 6 OCT 1862. DOB confirmed on death certificate in 1925. Daughter Mary didn’t know parents’ names. Living in 21st ward (manayunk) at 4413 Dexter St in Manayunk or Roxy?Roxborough? Pa. Undertaker was John Strittmather at 4327 Cresson St? Manayunk. Declaration of intent to become citizen filed in Philadelphia 22 Sept 1856. 1860 census shows an IGNATIUS BORINNER age 29 with wife Catherine age 25 and children Joseph 6 (is he a Brecht?)
and Louisa 6 months. I think this is ours. From France, He is a cordwamer? leather worker. Post Office, Leverngton. Think it might be Levering. Louisa is born in Pa, rest in France. 21st ward Philadelphia: ancestry lists living with Joseph Schnitchus family, can’t see it.
immigrated 1850 acc to 1920 census and naturalized in 1860. Note says 4413 Dexter St Found a record for a Notzig Brunner arriving in 1856,

21ST WARD PHILADELPHIA: 1900 census living as head of household next to Mary and her husband on Levering Street. Shown as Er 65 and wife Catherine with 18 year old daughter Amelia. Married 43 years. Gives dob Dec 1834 and wife Oct 1835. 1910 census shows IGNATZ as head of household with Streiby family living with them. Ignatz is 79 and Catherine is 76. Catherine had 7 children with 4 still living. (I have some records indicating 8 children but some died young). Shows they both immigrated in 1854 but Ignotz only naturalized. 1920 living with daughter, Mary Streiby, in 21st ward, aged 89. Showed widowed and immigrated 1850, NA in 1860. Notzig Brunner declaration of intent was Sep 22 1856 and oath of allegiance was Oct 6, 1862.

I have children of Ignotz and Kate Brunner as Joseph, Louisa, Catherine (who marries Wm Bauer in 1857/8), William Alexander, Mary (who marries Streiby or Streibig), Theresa, Margaret and Amelia.

I just returned from Bellagio, Italy (on Lake Como) and saw a headstone there for a Sidney Herbert Brunner. It was unusual so we photographed it. I hoped to connect it to a genealogist. Transcription:

In loving memory of Sidney Herbert Brunner of Winnington Cheshire Aged 23 who lost his life in saving his elder brother from danger of drowning on eighth day of September 1890. His body was recovered from the lake on the tenth and laid here on the following day -- the white flower of a blameless life.
Yes, my Brunner's did live near Yukon in the early 1900's, and near West Newton, PA. I am sorry that I did not notice your posting sooner. Elizabeth Brunner was the daughter of Elizabeth S. Zumbro Medsger and George E. Medsger. Are you related to them?

d.e.morgan$sbcglobal.net or aramac007@yahoo.com

I had a first cousin 2x removed (I think) named Robbie Neeley, who was married to George Harman Brunner, an optometrist or opthamologist. When she died, I got a box of her stuff. In it are many many pictures of the Brunner family and some are before the turn of the century. Please contact me if you would like some of these.

Mr. Brunner was born ca 1898 and died about 1977 in San Antonio, Texas

John Brunner born 1830 in Bavaria. Katherine was born about 1830 also in Bavaria. He may have had brothers I don't know for sure. They lived in Ft.Wayne yet must of had relations elsewhere. Some pall bearers at JB's funeral in 1898 are Jacob Kiett, Henry Stellhorn, George Geller, George Motz, Gus Rauch and George Brudi or Brudl. Mabey these names indicate aquaintences or a brother/cousin link to this John Brunner?

John Brunner's daughters names in marriage;
Mrs. August Korn, Mrs.Louise Huser, and Mrs.Fred Rothenburger of Indiana and Mrs George Huser of Detroit. Well Cindy at least I got this info out. Kevin.

I confirmed this through his father's obituary and found Fredirike's name as Adam's sister. If we cross examine some facts that would be constructive. Adam, Frederiks's brother was a shipbuilder at the time. There are more siblings and all of them were born in Ft.Wayne. Their parents were the earliest to settle in this area...Both born in Germany..but in different regions....do you have any other names/ contact me through this board. So long for now.

Hello and thank you so much for posting this message. I am a great-great grandniece of Sidney Herbert Brunner, so was intrigued to find your post, and see a picture of his grave. I am in the process of researching the lives of my grandparents, Felix and Elizabeth Brunner, and so I'm looking as far back as I can in the family tree. What a sad story! But very important to me, as the boy who died at 13 was rescuing my great-great grandfather John Brunner. So without his brave gesture, I would not be alive.
I will definitely visit the grave when I can, and am pleased to be able to share this information with my family members. Thanks again!

Could your Brunners be related to mine? All I have is one George Brunner born in Germany in 1849 married Josephine Wagner of New York in 1870. I think they may have been married in Germany though. It looks like it on familysearch.org. They had one daughter that I now of, Rose Josephine Brunner born in 1873. Could be a cousin to your Amandus or something. It's rough when the family history is so sketchy, but maybe we can help each other.

Anyone here a descendant of the Brunners from Tyrol?

My wife's great grandfather Alois Angerer married a Nothberg or Norberg Brunner in 1890 in Tyrol (an early census paper had Tyrol Austria, but it was crossed off to read Italy).
I am having trouble getting information from Austria/Italy and would like any help anyone can provide.

Thank you,
Doug Fielder
