Re: Lost Touch with Broz Family Members

Hi,

Since this message was posted in 2004, I am not sure if you will even view this message.

I am the daughter of Joe. Were your parents living in Houston. I know I had an Uncle Adolph in Houston. We would visit them. They had two daughters named Bula and I cannot remember the other (I may even have Bula's name wrong.)

I live in San Antonio. Uncle Otto owned the farm in Weimar and only just sold it a couple of years ago. He had lived in San Antonio for many years by that time. (I lived with Uncle Otto and Aunt Kathy for about a year and a half) Uncle Otto passed away about a year ago, he was 87. His Son David just died three weeks ago. And, oldest son Alan, died in 1981.

My dad Joe past away around 1994. He was 81. My mom Rita, died in 1981. My brother Joe lives in Austin and Sister Sue lives in a suburb of Dallas.

Aunt Rosalie past away around 1985. She and Uncle John's daughter is still living and is 80. We talk on the phone. She came for Uncle Otto's funeral and look pretty good for an 80 year old. The lived in Gonzales (and still have a farm there) but she is now around Dallas where her daughter Shirley lives.

Mary Ann and Johnny Mitcherling still live in Houston. She even has a picture, which I need to ask for again, of the old homestead with the grandparents on all of the Broz children, except for Uncle Otto. My dad is a baby in the picture. Their mom Alvina (Aunt Beanie) died a while back. Maybe around 6 years ago.

Aunt Mary who lived near the Texas coast , I have not kept up with. I am uncertain if she is still living. I also do not know anything about Aunt Francis.

Mary Ann or Shirly would know more than I as I am much younger than they are.

I have been curious and have tried to research some ancestry, but could not get far. I need to take the time to talk to Alice and Mary Ann and see what they know. Aunt Kathy may know some too (but since she married into the family, she does not know a lot.)

Please feel free to contact me. My name is now Barbara Wallerstedt and I live in San Antonio, TX. I am married to my husband Douglas for nearly 24 years and we have 4 boys,
Lincoln, Lance, Luke & Lex.

Barbara

Mary Broz and Fannie Lucas

I have a Bible that belonged to Fannie Lucas. There is a not in it that reads" My mother Mrs. Mary Broz passed away quietly Sept 19, 1954 at 7:30 p.m. at our home. She was bed ridden 10 weeks, those weeks my husband and I cared for her until death" (signed) Fannie and Harrison Lucas. Texas death records list a Mary Tomek Broz, date of death 09-19-1954 in Harris Co., TX Certificate # 45018. The Bible was given to Fannie 01-1926 by Rev. & Mrs. McManas from Crosby Baptist Church. My uncle who was a Baptist minister for many years in Baytown, Harris Co., TX had the bible. He said Crosby Baptist church was in the Baytown area. There is also a book of Psalms. There is not any family info in the bible but I thought some family member might like to have it, with the note from Fannie in her handwriting. Fannie may have been a nickname for Mrs. Harrison and I do not know if she was a Broz or a Tomek. According to the 1930 Census Mary Broz (b. abt 1876) was living with her son Frank Tomek age 20 (who is listed as the head of the household) and her daughter Lilly Broz age 12 and son Jerry Broz age 8. They were living in Precinct 3, Harris CO., TX. Fannie was probably already married and not living with them. If this sounds like some of your relatives please respond here or directly to me (pmsbetty1@aol.com.).

I have two conflicting stories that I have gooten from her children's birth certificates. Two of the children's birth certificates lists the mother's birthpalce as "Bohemia", whereas the other two list her birthplace as Chicago, Ill. I know she lived in Chicago, and that is where she was married to Daniel Cichy. They later moved to teh Necedah, Wisconsin area (Juneau County). Does any of this help you out?

P.S. Her father's name was Josip of Joseph Broz. Her mother's name was marked "unknown".

Have you checked for a death certificate at Halletsville? Did she become a citizen? Do you have her citizenship papers? I have found citizenship documents difficult to find as you could file your Intent at any local court if there was not a Federal court nearby. People usually went to the courthouse nearest their home even if it was in an adjoining county so you would need to check all locations. Have you checked Leo Baca's CZECH IMMIGRATION PASSENGER LISTS? I only have Volumes I and II and she was not listed in them. Another option is Catholic church records. On passenger lists and immigration pappers you may find her listed as BROSCH instead of Broz.

I am looking for relatives of Johanna Broz Jalufka. She was born 3-30-1864 in Moravia and died on 9-28-1933. She is buried in St. Mary's Cemetary in Hallettesville, Texas. She married August Jalufka in approximately 1985. Her son Rudolph Jalufka is my husband's grandfather. I have found a possibility of Frank Broz and Maria ?, but have no way to verify that infor. If anyone has any info to verify that or dispute that, please let me know.
I descend from a Joesph Broz (1881-1941) born in Blatna, Roudnice, Bohemia and died in Maryland. He was the son of Matej Broz and Marie Roz Yavrova and came to this country around 1905. I doubt this will help but it may be worth a try for the place names in Europe.

Lost Touch with Broz Family Members

Hello, my father and mother are deceased and I was trying to locate some of his family. They came here and settled in Wiemar, Texas. They lived on a farm there. My father was Adolph R. Broz. My mom Ollie F. Broz. My dad has a large family but I will give you the names I remember. Otto Broz lived in San Antonio, he has two sons, David and Allan (deceased). He was married to Kathy but they divorced years ago. I think she stayed around Columbus, Texas. There was also a brother Joe a couple more and I think 2 sisters. One we called Beanie Mitcherling.(deceased) She had two kids, Johnny and MaryAnn Mitcherling. I think they had a brother named Frank and he is buried next to my mom and dad at Brookside Memorial Park in Houston, Texas off HW 59/69. Well if anyone out there is kin, email me. Thanks!

I am not sure who I just replied to, but thought I better reply to the other entry. I have recently come into some info. John Pire sent me copies of some pages out of "The Pilgrims For Hope" by Dr. Josef Simicek. In those pages it lists a Augustin Jaluvka (p. Isdor and Veronika Polasek) married a Johana Broz (1864-1933) on Aug. 19, 1884, Lavaca Co. Augustin is my great uncle on my great grandmother's side. Let me know if this helps. Could be distant cousins!!!

I have a birth date of 1864 and death date is 1933. my info was given to me by a John Pire, who copied from a book called "The Pilgrims For Hope" by Dr. Josef Simicek.
