My grandpa, George Brownawell, died in the summer of 2011, and my mom, Diane Christy (she got married a long time ago) and I still live in Carlisle. I've been searching for years to find more family, so I hope you'll contact me!!!

This is so late being posted. I believe your dad is my uncle. I hope you found him before now, but I just stumbled on this posting. This is the sad part. My uncle, George Brownawell, passed away on 6/12/2011 in Carlisle. I was searching for his obituary and came upon this postng. I know he was in the military for 25 years. I know that he married a woman from the MA area. Feel free to contact me if you need more information.

Father: N.N. Brownawell (no further info)
Mother: Elisabeth May Zeigler * January 26th, 1891 + Abt. April 1938. She married in second marriage John Neubold (* 1886, Millersburg, Dauphin Co., PA).

Sunday, July 25, 2010 at Lupfer's Grove, Shermansdale, Carroll Twp., Perry Co., PA. Eating at 1:00 p.m.

Baked ham, fried chicken, rolls, drink and placesettings provided by the Reunion.

Bring a covered dish [or two] to share, tablecloth, and your appetite. Each person/family is asked to bring at least one item to be auctioned off during our White Elephant Sale and at least one food item [canned goods, baked items, fresh produce, etc] to be placed in a large basket - to be raffled off to benefit the Reunion Expense.

The Brownawell-Brownewell ancestor of the Cumberland County and the Perry County clans, Mathias Braunwell, settled in what is now North Middleton Twp., Cumberland Co., PA. - having been born on 21-Sep-1751 in Bucks Co., PA. and baptized on 24-Sep-1751 in the St. Michael's Lutheran Church, Philadelphia, PA.. Many of his descendants are still in the before mentioned counties, but some have migrated to Adams, York and Dauphin Counties of Pennsylvania and still others traveled to Ohio and even further west.... one family is even in Australia.

Hans Adam Braunewell had Johannes Braunewel and Johann Wendel Braunewell
Johannes Braunewel had Casper and

Mr. and Mrs. Peter BROWNAWELL of Blue Springs celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary, Tuesday, January 12. Mr. BROWNAWELL is 86 years old and enjoys fairly good health, coming down town nearly every day for his mail. Mrs. BROWNAWELL is 85 and enjoys fairly good health.
A few years after their marriage they came to Nebraska from Iowa, and have witnessed the transformation of the midwest from a so-called desert into a territory of vast wealth. Their married life exceeds in years that of any other couple in Blue Springs. The Bee joins their many friends in wishing them many more years of wedded life.

I'm trying to figure out how we all fit together. Judging that most of the Brownawells seem to be in Pennsylvania, I'd like to try to fit pieces of the puzzle together.

Here's what I know about my clan:
My great grandfather is Frank Brownawell who lived in Carlisle, Pa. He was married to Florence. They had a bunch of children (Charles -- my grandfather, George, Shirley, Ethel, etc.). My grandfather, Charles, married Louise Cramer, of Shippensburg, and they had three children, Charles Jr. Gary (my father) and Jane, who married William Wyatt. Gary Brownawell died in Sept. 1984.

I'm sure there is a connection between all of us. I would like to be able to figure out what it is. It's judging from my experience that the Brownawell ancestors didn't do too great a job at keeping a record.

Actually, David Brownawell is Samuel Henry Brownawell's father, but you were close!

Mary Brownawell that married my Grand-Uncle Milton Adams is a cousin to my mom's side of the family. My great-great-grandmother is Mary C. Brownawell who married John W. MORTON. Their daughter, Matilda married my great-grandfather, John Henry PAULUS. Many of the Brownawell's and Paulus' are buried up at Young's.

My mom was just up there and taking pictures for me. Maybe she got a chance to photograph John, George & Samuel's gravesites as well.

My father's names listed on my birth certificate is George Brownawell, born in Carlisle,Pennsylvania, not even sure if he is my biological father but may be to some of my siblings. I believe he is dead but would like to know if any family is still alive. I live in Massachusetts. Please email if you have any information on him. He was married to a Barbara (Patterson) Murphy in the 1950's, in Massachusetts, by a Justice of the Peace. I believed he served in the military but was dishonorably discharged.

Brownawell family (PA) Update!

I was doing some research about the Young's United Cemetery where many of my Paulus relatives are buried (a Brownawell married into this family) and was contacted by a Donna [Heller] Zinn. The folling information is what she shared with me. I have very little sources of my own on this family, yet, just to forwarn you.

David BROWNAWELL m. Lydia Ann LEPHART No further dates or places available. They had the following children (may not be limited to those listed):

1) Samuel Henry BROWNAWELL b: 1856 m. Mary Ellen FENICLE. They had at least one child, William Chester BROWNAWELL. I have some additional information on this line, some of which connects to my Grand Aunt Mary (Brownawell) Adams.

2) Mary C. BROWNAWELL b: 18 Aug 1860 in Perry County, PA. Died in 1925. Buried at Young's United Cemetery, Carroll Twp, Perry County, PA. Married John Henry Paulus. They had 14 children.

I have very limited information about this name, but I hope it's enough to ring some bells.

I have a Mary C. BROWNAWELL who married a John MORTON. Together they had four children. Matilda Maud Morton (my great-grandmother), Martha Morton, Lilly Morton and David Morton

I also have a Mary BROWNAWELL who married Milton ADAMS.

My grandmother says that both Mary's are cousins. I highly doubt they are the same woman, and a kinship sounds reasonable.

Mathias/Matthias Brownewell/Brownawell

I've seen both spellings of the first and last name on records I have dug up. Mathias Brownewell was a Revolutionary War Soldier. He died in Cumberland County, PA in September 1829. It appears he had, at least, the following children:
Henry, John and Catherine/Elizabeth

I am a descendent of Catherine/Elizabeth. I have just begun researching this line. I have collected a bit of information from Cumberland County, but haven't been able to match the individuals up yet. Any interest?
