William Henry Brooks, age 77, went home to the Lord Wednesday, October 15, 2008 at Ohio State University East Hospital, Columbus, Ohio.
Born January 15, 1931 in Bronx, New York, he was a 25 year veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving in the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. Bill was Past President of the Ohio Chapter of the Tuskeegee Airmen, a graduate of Franklin University (B.S., Business Administration),Columbus, Ohio; and Past President of the Ohio Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity.
He was an active member of the Bethany Presbyterian Church, where he was an Elder, and committed his service to the youth of the congregation in many capacities.
He is predeceased by his grandparents, William H. Brooks, I and Pearl Lee Brooks; and parents, Wayne C. Brooks, and Mamie Olivia Smith-Brooks. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 53 years, Estelle May Brooks; daughters, Chris Brooks, Cheryl (Keith) Johnson, grandchildren, Rachel Moore and Ashley (Mike) Levesque; great-grandchildren, Gregory Sullivan-Crockett and Sunday Estella Levesque; brother and best friend, Sidney (Delores) George; son and mentee, James Green; twin nephews, Wayne and Warren Brooks; and many other relatives and friends.
Service of memory 7:00 pm Tuesday, October 21, 2008 at the Bethany Presbyterian Church, 206 N. Garfield Ave., Rev. Dr. Floyd Rhodes, Rev. Dr. Irv. Moxley, and Rev. Dr. Rudolph Featherstone, officiating.
The family will receive friends at the church Tuesday, 6:00 pm until the start of services. The family requests that memorial gifts be made in the form of donations to the Columbus Ohio Chapter of the Tuskeegee Airmen Scholarship Fund; Ohio Memorial Chapter; P.O. Box 27523; Columbus, Ohio 43227.
