Would love to find out more about this family. The letter is written to Aletha Jane Thompson Hightower who was living in Navarro Co Texas. Sarah was a child by the 2nd marriage, and this letter gives lots of information about the Thompson siblings that are scattered between Texas and MS.

June the 25 1882
Calhoon County Big Creek [MS]

Dear brother and sister
i take the pleasure this eaven [evening] to wright [write] you a few lines to inform you that i hainte [ain't] forgotten you both yet it has been a long time since i saw you i heard from you last summer. this leaves us well and i hope these few lines will come to hand in dew time and find you all well. sister i have been married 4 years,[1877?] the 2 day of last Feb . My husband name is Jesse Winfred Brooks. He is a poor man but he don't mind work.

We have one child it is a boy his name is never to be forgotten. We call his name Joseph Thompson Brooks.

Rolly and Jane I don't know wheter you know who this writing to you i am your fathers oldest child by his second wife. I want you to writ to me as soon as you get this letter. brother and sister I could write you a heap if I knew you would get this letter.

Mr. Brooks was at mother last week they was all well. Hanner [Hannah? ] married in 1868. She is a widdo [widow] with three children too [two] girls and a boy. Hyrune Thompson is married he has one child it is a girl he has a son dead.
Napoleon is married he has 2 girls he married 1879. Janse [James?] and George is single yet I recan [reckon] you have heard that brother Tom is ded. he died in 1877 jane he call francses to come to his bed so he could talk to her before he died but she would not talk to him .... ast [asked] her to give him water and waite on him. What time to live fare he was ding but she would not do it but god bless him i say i hope his soul is at reast and i hope god will forgive her for mistreating him on his death bed i hear from bill and jo last week and they was all well.
Well exsept [except] for Matilda ellen she is not well Nore haint been in some time

Write to me How many children you have got rite to me where sister puss is and tell her to rite me an tell me where Carral is and David and Gid and tell them to rit to me for you don't no [know] how glad i would be to get a letter from you all. it would be a grate sat id faciam for me to read a letter from you and to hear from you all Wane time more in life

give my love an respects to all of the connection an keep a good portion of it yourself. Mr. Brooks also sed [said] giv his love and resepct to you all sister and brother i want you to sit down and sanswer this letter back to me and write me all the news you no [know] about ? to me rit soon without fail so i will come to a close for this time. We remain yours sister and brother until death ?

I will sine [sign] my name in full to you Sarah Joydey Brooks an Jesse W. Brooks to Mr. Rolly Hitower and Leta Jane Hitower.

NOTE:
The father of Aletha Jane Thompson (who married Raleigh Hightower) isn't known, but Sarah, the author of this letter, is one of the children by his 2nd marriage.

Aletha had 2 older brothers (Cariel/Carroll and Guid), who also moved to Texas, as well as a younger brother, David.
