Hi Donna:

Thanks for the reply. I am a friend of John & Bernice Brookfield's youngest son and his family. Didn't know about the home for boys but will run that past them. I've checked out cemeteries in Toronto, the US Social Security Death Index, did an online check of gravesites in New Brunswick/Nova Scotia as there were a big clan of Brookfields and even British records in case he went back and have come up with nothing. It's like he evaporated. I"ll keep looking and lety ou know if I make and big discoveries.

Great info thanks. I'm also hoping to find info about when he was still in England. As I understand his parents died and he was at a home for boys or something.

The story I've heard was he moved out and lived with a women down the street. Gertrude lived on Robinson Ave. when i was very young. My grandparents stayed there after she passed until they moved into an apartment

I'm the Great Granddaughter of James and Gertrude, granddaughter to Edith.

I am also seeking information about James S. Brookfield, born 1889 in Lancashire, England for his grandson and family. He arrived in Canada about 1901 and married Gertrude Ethel Farmer on 4 Nov 1916 in Toronto. They had 7 children before James left the family. From the City Directories they last lived together in 1939 at 39 Byng Avenue. They lived at 342 Rhodes, 13, 31 and 39 Byng Avenues in the east end. James moved almost every year and is not listed again after 1943. Gertrude is not listed as a widow until 1962. His occupations listed are tinsmith at Auto Parts Repair, auto mechanic, radiator/auto mechanic/foreman at United Motors Service Inc. from 1922 - 1932, and machinist. In 1940 he was a janitor at Canadian Tire. Gertrude is buried at Pine Hills Cemetery. James' resting place is still unknown. From another source his death date is 1951 but there's no conclusive evidence to prove this at this time.

After celebrating our 40 year reunion in 2010 a number of us survivors are now thinking of the school's 500th anniversary but all of us have completely lost track of him. Can you please update and advise how I can contact you/him. I also live in Belgium (Waterloo).
Best regards
Mike Taylor

Re: Albert Brookfield's descendants

I firstly have to apologize for LONG delay in replying to you. I used to sound a lot of time on this but after grandchildren came along hadn't got time. Anyway, what I know about MY Albert Brookfield is that he married my great grandmother Elizabeth McLaren in the 1880s and left her (after a son Albert died in infancy). When he left she was pregnant with my grandmother Janet. Other family have discovered he went to Kokomo Indiana and 'married' one Clara Fellows. They had a daughter who died, then TWINS, one of whom survived - Mary Brookfield. He then appears to have come back to his wife in Scotland and fathered eight more children before disappearing. The birth of TWINS in your family rings bells with me as two of the eight were twins and of course the twins in America Do you think this may be the sane man? The name Elizabeth crops up a lot as one daughter in USA had the name then one of his twins un Scotland. This MAY be my great grandfather?

My mother Monica was born in 1918 in Scotland and her mother who we believe was serving in the forces during the first world war brought her down to Manchester, England to be cared for. Unfortunately, for whatever reason she never returned after the war to take her back. She was later adopted. Apparently she had two sisters Mary and Florence, one was older and one younger. There is very little information about the family.

Does anyone remember this although it's so long ago now.

Thanks.

I am trying to find out if and when Emma (Brookfield) Walradt died. I have found her living with her parents and siblings (along with her husband and one son, Albert) in Wethersfield, Wyoming Co. NY in the 1880 census.

It looks like Garrett Walradt had a second marriage about 1898 to Mary (Dutton) Latson. They are listed in the 1900 census, living in Warsaw, Wyoming Co. NY, with Mary's oldest son, John Latson.

If this is indeed the same Garrett Walradt, did Emma die? If so, what happened to Albert Walradt (because he is not listed with the Garrett Walradt married to Mary Latson)?

-- Denise

Hi Sheila--

You throw me when you say Brookfields of Nova Scotia. My Brookfields are all of New Jersey, as far back as I know (England previous to that).

I don't have the Brookfield family book, but I did order it from
the local Family History Center, and copied several pages
which pertained to my line, which is as follows:

William Brookfield (b. before 1684)
Job
John
Rachel Brookfield, b. 1742-1750 who married Ephraim Goble
in Morristown, NJ

I don't show a Sam in my lineage, but then I don't have extensive records on the Brookfields.

Sorry I'm not more help.

Bonnie

Sorry WInnie--

The Brookfield line that I mention is from Morris County, NJ, rather than your Burlington...and they seem to be some distance away. I have two Elizabeth Brookfields, but show neither marrying Mathias (nor do the dates match)...

I have two Williams...Wm. Sr. born 1684 in England, died abt. 1712...don't know where he's buried, but his wife Elisabeth died 12 years later in Elizabeth, NJ.

Wm. Jr. I have no info on.

My source of both of the above is the Henry Morgan Brookfield book we discussed at the beginning of this thread...
"Genealogy of the Brookfield Family".

Good luck.

Bonnie

Hi,

Looking for Steven Brookfield, son of David and Sybil Brookfield. David Brookfield was from Southport, Merseyside, England, but the family lived in Oxfordshire for a while, (around Banbury).

Steven moved to the US and is a university lecturer. He apparently has moved around the US but has been living in Minnesota and Washington.

He has two brothers, Peter and Andrew.

He has been researching his family tree and my mum and I are eager to find him in the US as we are researching the tree too and wonder if we have some useful information for him. My mum is Carol Nelson and she is his cousin.

Steven is near my mum's age, around mid 50's.

If anybody knows him or he reads this board as part of his research it would be great to get in touch.

Thanks,

Stella and Carol

Hi Evelyn--

I ordered the Henry Morgan Brookfield book from my local
Family History Center. It's got some great Brookfield
background info in it, but nothing about Ephraim. In fact,
it says Rachel married "Goble"...not even a first name.

I printed the pages relating to the Morris Co. NJ Brookfields,
so I have the info if anyone is interested...but I'm still on the
great Ephraim Goble documentation search.

Bonnie

Hi Kenneth--

I'm at the same place as Evelyn...sure sounds like your
Harrison Brookfield Goble could be related, but I can't prove
it at this point. Any additional info appreciated. Date range?? County?? Anything??

I DO have several grandchildren (and gr-grandchildren) of Ephraim Goble and Rachel Brookfield Goble that have the middle name of Brookfield, so it was something that was "done" in the Goble clan.

My branch (Isaac Goble, son of Ephraim & Rachel) left New Jersey about 1803...believe he spent a few years in Vermont (no proof), then went to southern Ohio by 1810, then on to SE Indiana (Franklin Co) by 1830. All of Isaac's children settled "outside of NJ"...mostly Ohio and Indiana, a couple in SE Michigan. Maybe that will help you?

Keep in touch as you learn more...Thanks.

Bonnie
(The closest one was b. 1798, but d. 1828). Mine all stayed in NJ, at least for one more generation.

There is a great book in the Family History LIbrary (on film) on the Brookfield Family by Henry Morgan Brookfield. I've only copied my lines, so I don't have the pages. It's worth a look.

Bonnie

Hi Bonnie,

Sorry to be so long getting back to you - pressure of work.

Henry Morgan Brookfield wrote two books on the Brookfield family. One is typewritten, the other published in book form.

The one I refered to is the typewritten one. At the back of the book is a chapter titled 'The Brookfield's of Nova Scotia'. Like you, I only copied that which applied to my line of research.

Which one did you read/copy?

Some of the Nova Scotia Brookfield's did move to the USA, I have some in New York, not far from New Jersey!

If you are interested in pursuing this line further, send me what you have and I will see if I can help you. I have them back to the 1600's in the UK.

Sheila
