I purchased a copy of ""Brodie Country" written by James Brodie 186 pages published 1999 by Galloper Press, 50 Foxwood Avenue, Birmingham, UK B43 7QX. I think its an excellent book. It is not a dry genealogy but rather an historical account of selected Brodie's. It starts with a chapter on King Brude who ruled picts (the guys who painted themselves blue in battle) near Inverness in the 6th Century who was visited by Saint Columba etc. For genealogies of the Brodies back to Malcolm, Thane of Brodie ca1200 and his descendants the Brodies of Brodie Castle go to the many researchers' results at World Connect
www.worldconnect.rootsweb.com. James places many of the Brodies in the book into genealogical context where the information was available and briefly describes his family genealogy. I think it is rare and a valuable thing to have James Brodie's account of some outstanding Brodies to supplement our usual dry unvarnished genealogies otherwise available. He provides his father's toast at family Christmases: "Here's tae us! Whae's like us? Gae few!" In his book, like any good historian, James provides an extensive bibliography on the sources of his info and this is of interest as well. I don't think you will be disappointed to have purchased this book. I'm not that's for sure. -- Fred Kindel (my great grandmother was Caledonia Brodie b.1855 McDonald Co MO m.
