I have information on Noah W. Briles re: civil war service. My father remembers his picture hanging on the wall in his grandmother's house when he was a little boy. Noah W. Briles served in 1st Calvary Regiment 1A (Iowa) enlisted as private on June 13 1861 at the age of 22 and on August 3, 1861 enlisted in company I, 1st Calvary Regiment Iowa and promoted to full farrier on October 5, 1863 re-enlisted in same company Jan 1, 1864 and mustered out same company 2/15/1866 in Austin, Texas

This is the correct time frame that I have for Noah Washington Briles. He was the brother of my Great-grandfather, born in 1840 and died in 1877. He was born in Randolph Co. NC. Do you happen to know his parents name?

You and I must be talking about the same person. I have the same records for Noah's father and mother. Noah had a brother named Robert Alexander who was my great grandfather. The definitive link was when you said your grandmother lived in Coffee Co. Kansas.

NOAH BRILES (1009) [son of Noah BRILES (364)] (b. Sept 28, 1828 Randolph Co., NC;d. > 1905 Springfield, Lane Co., OR) He married Catherine Imbler (b. Apr 15, 1831) in Randolph Co., NC on Mar 12, 1847. He moved to the vicinity of Topeka, Kansas, about 1858, then to Texas, then to Missouri from which state he served in the Federal Army from 1861-1864. In the late 1870s he moved to the Willamette Valley to Lane County, Oregon where he resided until his death.
