Does anyone have Vesta F. Briles in their tree?
I found her born in Nebraska on Mar 18, 1881 and died Oct 14, 1963 in Los Angeles, California.
I would like to know who her parents are. Does she have any brothers and sisters?
Vesta married Joseph Marvin Hunt in 1899. What date and where at did they marry?
I would also like to know more about Joseph, also.
I do have the 1900 to 1930 census for them and children, Ethyl, Leonard, Dora, and Joseph Keith.

I have Vesta in my files. My grandmother, Josephine, was her sister. Vesta's parents were John Briles and Mira Aphelia Scofield. Vesta and Joseph Hunt were married 23 April 1899, but I do not know where. The only information I have on Joseph is that he was born Jan. 1879 in Iowa. This is Sarge (George) who administers the BROYLES & Briles Message Boards and mailing Lists. I maintain a huge database of BROYLES & Briles descendants and would love to have what you have on Vesta, Josephine, etc., to add to the database. I don't have this branch/line in the database, although I do have several John Briles people who might match.

Could you send what you have? Names, places, dates, parents, spouses, siblings, children, etc., etc.?

I have lots more on BROYLES than I do on Briles. Sure need to add to the Briles part. Any help would be appreciated, from anyone reading this. Gedcoms are welcome, and are the preferred medium for transporting genealogy data.

Can we share information on this family. I have just been on this for three days and put this together.
I am doing this because Ethyl B. Hunt b 1900 married Chandler Hiram Ward b 1898
Their children were Cora Jean Ward b 1925 who just died Mar 12, 2007 in my hometown of Philip, South Dakota and she connects to my family tree.
I will also be searching the Hunt tree and anyone connected to that tree.

I've been following this thread about Vesta Briles with some interest. As I said yesterday, I'm the admin for the Briles and BROYLES Message Boards and Mailing Lists at Rootsweb (plus admin for about 3 dozen others). I heard privately from one of the other posters concerning Vesta and she is sending me some info.

Now to your post. I have the John Briles, b.1852, married to Mira Aphelia Scofield, in my large BRILES/BROYLES database. The only problem is that I have him as John, Jr., son of a John, Sr., who was married to a Mary Jane MICHAEL, not married to Ann Reed. Somehow I have incorrect data in my database, or we're all confusing the different "Johns".

I have a single line from John and Mira Aphelia down through their daughter, Josephine Florence, who married a John Ross RUMELHART.

I'm happy to have received the data you sent, but we need to figure out which is the correct parents of John, Jr., born 1852. Do you, or anyone else reading this, have any sources for his parents? If so, I would love to have them. Unlike some "purists", my database isn't completely "sourced". There are just too many BRILES/BROYLES branches/lines in the country to be able to absolutely document every fact.

Looking forward to hear from you and all the others who are participating in the discussion of this family/branch.

OK, since I posted the original reply, I have done some more searching at Ancestry.Com and "think" I have cleared up the problem of some of us having different wives for John BRILES, Sr. (b.1816, Randolph Co., NC), and the problem of which children belonged to whom.

I have entered into my database the new data I found (much of which is well sourced) and here is how it looks:

i. Jacob BRILES was born in 1849.
ii. John BRILES Jr., born on 8 Oct 1852, , Shelby, IN; married Mira Ophelia SCOFIELD, on 1 Oct 1877, , Pawnee, NE; died on 5 Dec 1923, , Jerauld, SD.

John Briles (b.6 Feb,1816)married Mary Bollibaugh 15 Dec. 1839 in Shelby Co., Indiana (I have the indiana Marriages, 1802 - 1892 from Ancestry with this information). Mary died 17 Mar 1845. THey had 2 children: Jesse b. 1842 in Shelby Co., Indiana and Susannah b. 10 Dec 1843 in Selby Co., Indiana. Then John married Mary Jane Michael 8 March 1846 (I have the marriage license/certificate for that) in Shelby Co., Indiana.
