I am unsure how to use this program. I was doing a Google search for A. Briles because I have a large wonderful painting done by him and would like information on where/how to sell it. It was done for his cousin (also of Santa Fe) and is so inscribed and signed.

Hello Dolores,

First, are you sure the A. BRILES that did the painting is Abraham Lincoln BRILES? If so, I don't have Abraham in any of my BROYLES/BRILES/BRYLES databases.

If you could establish exactly who the artist A. BRILES is, you could then let me know and I could post the information on all the pertinent Mailing Lists and Message Boards. Rootsweb/Ancestry frowns on "advertising" on the Lists and Boards, but I think we can word the post so that it's OK.

I did find one reference to Abraham BRILES at Ancestry.Com, in the World Tree section:

Abraham BRILES, b1830 in Harrison Co., IN, son of Ephraim BRILES, and Miriam LOCKHART.

In all other sections at Ancestry, e.g., Census, Birth, Death, Marriage, Military, etc., there is only one listing in each of those sections. So, if Abraham is the one who painted the picture, this could be the one.

If anyone reading this can let us know of any other Abraham BRILES (BROYLES) individuals, please post a reply here and let us know.

Just as an add-on, in case Abraham "could" have been known also as a BROYLES, there are only 5 Abraham BROYLES at Ancestry:

1) Abraham BROYLES, b.1762, in Culpeper Co., VA, m.Hannah SCOTT; son of Nicholas BROYLES and Dorothea CHRISTLER/CREIGLER;

2) Abraham BROYLES, b.1810, in Greene Co., TN, m.Nancy/Frances WEAVER; son of 1) above;

3) Abraham BROYLES, b.1841, in Greene Co., TN, no spouse found; son of Cyrus BROYLES and Polly MARONY;

4) Abraham BROYLES, b.1916, in Washington Co., TN; (can't be him, since I know him personally).

Thanks for your response. The information I have is Abraham Lincoln Briles, born in Santa Fe (or Santa Fe County) in the 1920's. Served in WW II (I have a photocopy of his picture in uniform) and he did this painting for his cousin, Billy Rodriquez. Don't know exactly when A B died, Billy died about two years ago. I was told that Briles has a daughter who is also a well known painter of American Indians who lives in or near Scottsdale AZ. That's all the information I have, but it came from Billy before he died.

Just wanted to let you know, in case you are still searching for evidence of A L Briles, that I was contacted by someone who owns two of his paintings and was doing a Google search to find out more about him. Abraham was known as Abie to his friends and family. My painting is about 3 X 5. It says 'To my primo - Enjoy, Billy'

I have not had an opportunity to track his dates of birth and death but I expect they would be in the archives of the New Mexican newspaper in Santa Fe.

Strange turn of events here: I googled Abraham Lincoln Briles this morning and discovered your post. You noted that you have a photocopy of him in uniform. Someone by the name of Abraham Lincoln Briles was my father. I have never met him and am wondering if you would be kind enough to send me a digital copy of this image. My mother's old family album has a gentleman holding me as a child and I have never know who he was.

I do not know if you will ever receive this message or not. I will be out of touch for two weeks but I do hope to hear from you.
