Jennifer:
The information I have on Curtis is that he was probably the son of Louis and Sarah A. Brigman. At one point someone gave me the following (but I no longer possess the reference so the data should be checked):
Lewis/Louis? BRIGMAN, b. ca 1829, resided Marlboro SC 1870, m. Sarah A. (b ca 1838 SC), children: Curtis – a CW bounty hunter (b. 1856 Marlboro Co. SC, m. Harriet (b. 1857), children: Curtis (m. Dora Porter), Edgar, Erwin, Lilly (b. 1876, m. ? Kidd), Minnie (m. ? Lanier), Cora Lee (m. ? Buckles), Josie (m. ? McDonald), Nettie (m. ? Bailey)), Lucy Ellen, William (b ca 1862), H.J.(or .T.)(m)(b ca 1864), A.D.(f), Nelson
I do know that the above mentioned Lewis/Louis was the son of John "Jr" and Mary Brigman who show up on the Marlboro census of 1850 with kids Moses, Elijah, Mary, John, and Duncan (some of the other kids having moved outside the John/Mary family by then). Please verify this for yourself.
There were several other Lewis Brigmans living at the same time...one of which was mine and the son of an elder Lewis. Another was the son of Thomas Brigman.
Curtis seems to have disappeared before 1900. If this is the case then I have a probate reference as follows that may be him:
Court of Ordinary (Marlboro District)
Estate Records
Curtis BRIGMAN (T.W. Bouchier, admin), Apart 31, pkg 2, 1891
Hope this helps give you some clues to help in your reseach. Please verify for yourself everything I've mentioned!
Good luck,
Terri Brigman England
