Esther S. Bridge, 95, of Derry, died Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2012, in Excela Health Latrobe Hospital. She was born March 17, 1916, in Jewett, Texas, the daughter of the late Christian Frederick and Louise Blank Scheideman. Esther was a member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church of Latrobe, its Communion Guild and the ELCA sewing group. She formerly had worked as a secretary for Teledyne Vasco. Esther was very independent and a loving mother, grandmother and friend. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene J. Bridge; her son, Richard C. Bridge; and her brother, Richard "Dick" Scheideman. Esther is survived by her daughter, Katherine L. and her husband, Paul Sowatskey, of Greensburg; her daughter-in-law, Michelle Bridge, of Derry; two granddaughters, Cathy (Mark) Farrell and Cari Sowatskey; two great-grandchildren, Alessio and Ryder; and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in the McCABE FUNERAL HOME, 300 W. Third Ave., Derry. A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church of Latrobe. Interment will follow in the St. Joseph Cemetery, Derry. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church.
