Pat,

I grew up in Emmaus Pa just at the edge of Allentown ... as you say ... like so many other Brey's. In fact, my Grandfather (Allen C. Brey; wife Mamie Kinert; and brothers Robert and Claude) was born in Allentown in 1900 to an Irwin Brey. I seem to think that George may be in my linage, but I cannot find a father for Irwin (spelled with an I) with certainty. Charles seems to fit into the mix, but no proof yet. George may have been the father of Charles.

About the town of Brey. It is located 5Km south of Koblenz on the East bank of the Rhein river. There is an ancient Roman Aquaduct at the site and a population of 1100 people. Its a one hotel/gasthaus town that seems to date back to Roman times. It might have been farily important, because from the research that I have done, there were Knights of Brey in the 1300s as mentioned in some old church records from Germany. The town is probably the root of the names Brey, Breyer, Breyfoggle, etc because it was common to be named from the place of origin (Bob from Brey became known as Bob Brey or Bob Breyer (from Brey). Thank goodness we aren't from Hamburg or we might be Hamburgers! (ha-ha) There is also a family crest that is not the generic one listed in the "Brey book" as published by some ripoff outfit here in the states.
