Hortense had two daughters, Rita and Mary (who was better known as Nellie). Rita, my grandmother married James Freeman, together they raised three children-my father,Alvin, and two daughters, Alverta and Gwendolyn. Alvin and Alverta preceded their parents in death.

The only information I have on Joseph Odilon Breaux was that he was born on 22 nov 1896 in New Iberia LA and that he had two children: Carolyn Breaux who married a McCrory and Joe-O. Breaux.

Joseph Odilon was on the 9th generation (I have all his ancestors) and I have 9 siblings for him.

Who was your mother (his sister) ?

I'm sorry, that board name was changed to: Lakey/Wheat/Hawkins/Barnes Family Tree. Brace yourself if this is a relative, my great uncle Robert Sr., was married to his aunt, (my g-grandmother), the story goes that when Robert Jr. found out his parents were nephew and aunt, he joined the service. My great-grandmother had eight children, four by her nephew and four by my great-grandfather. For reasons no one knows, my grandmother, who was the youngest, was given up for adoption around age 4. She was adopted by her uncle and his wife, but there are no records of this (that I have found). Hope that helps, I've had a really hard time with this line of the family! Let me know if we're cousins!

I have a slave record with Celestine Sr's mother and two sisters. Not 100% sure its him because his birth date is off by 15 years and there were lots of slaves named Celestin. I thought it might be him because I could never find any of his brothers. The slave document listed him having two sisters. We have no idea about Augustine's parents.

Braud is the spelling that was used before arrival in Louisiana from "exile". It is still used by many of the branches. Is it the same family - yes. Your earlier records are going to be Braud. Breaux is a new spelling for the families in this area.

Make sure to be careful and distinguish which 'Celestin' you're referring to!

Remember:

The family patriarch- Celestin Breaux
2nd generation- Celestin Jr.; Aristide, his brother, also named his son, Celestin (Celly).

So, we have Celestin pere, Celestin fils, and Celestin, their nephew. There may have been many grandsons named 'Celestin'. Also, the English spelling is Celestine.

Earl- our cousin, Elzena Nelson Harris is also a descendant (granddaughter) of Mama Ida. Her mother (Ti Ada), Ada Woods Nelson was the youngest daughter of Henry and Ida Breaux Woods. (Ti Margaret Henriette would have been- she died as a young girl) Many members of the Nelson family still live in the Port Allen-Baton Rouge area. This is a written follow-up to our phone conversation. I will call Elzena tomorrow, cuz.

My name is Dorian Hall, and Ida Mary (Ada Marie) is my great-great grandmother. And yes she did indeed marry Henry Woods. Just a slight correction- Ida was the ONLY daughter of Celestin Sr. and Augustine (Gestine) Breaux! Yes, there was a Celestin, Jr. and many of his brothers named their sons in honor of the family patriarch, Celestin Breaux Sr. So, it's a very common name in the family.

Note: Ada Marie is the French Creole equivalent of the English spelling, 'Ida Mary'.

The information you have is correct. The Breaux family originates from Brusly.Lukeville, or as the census says West Baton Rouge. The family was in that area in 1870 under the last name Brand which should have been Breaux.

Sorry for the very tardy response to you, cousin! I've been so busy! I will give you this week. So yes, your great-great-great grandfather, Aristide Breaux was one of my great-great grandmother, Mama Ida's brothers. And there are SO MANY of them. The Breaux is a HUGE family! Uncle Henry Breaux's son, Villien Breaux is still living! He is 89 years old and lives with his daughter, Alice. He was named after Uncle Villien, Aristide and Mama Ida's brother. Also be in touch with our cousins, Alice Breaux (225-385-5235) and Elzena Nelson-Harris (832-541-3635).

Wowwwwww I have been looking for her family for so long. I couldn't find anything on her.Yes, we are definitely related because Celestin Sr was my great,great,great,great grandfather. My mother is Eva Mae Breaux the daughter of Dewey and Ola Mae Breaux. My mother was named after Eva Dickerson Breaux the wife of Celly Breaux who happens to be my great grandfather. We are very deep in the area, as a matter of fact I was down there over a year and a half ago for a funeral.I met lots of family and i saw the graveyard where all of the old time Breaux's are buried. I believe we are related!!!!! Celestin, Sr. (Clestin) is my 3rd great-grandfather. (The census folks could not spell those Franco-phone names; therefore, they're many misspellings lol) Anyway, I am the great-great grandson of Ida (Ada) Breaux Woods of Port Allen (lukeville), LA. She married Henry Woods. In the U.S. 1880 census, her name is listed as Ada. But she later changed it to Ida Mary. She was Celestin (Clestin) and Celestine (Augustine). I believe your Alcide Breaux and his wife Eva Miguez have nothing to do with Alcide Breaux married to Vivian Robinson and Helen Antoinette Bergeron and therefore your great-grandmother cannot be Victorine Sonnier.

Alcide Breaux and Eva Miguez are in my TO_BE_LINKED file of people from an obit I received in 2002 about Hazel Breaux Duplantis who died 25 aug 2002 in Delcambre and was buried 27 aug 2002 in Landry Cemetery in Erath.

She is survived by three daughters and one son. one sister: Patsy Vidalier (your Patricia?) of Abbeville and one brother: Lovelace "Poolou" Breaux (your Loveless) of Abbeville.

Preceeded in death by her husband: C.A. Duplantis; father: Alcide Breaux; mother: Eva Miguez; two sisters: Merline Blanchard (idem) and Amy Breaux (idem) and three brothers: Joseph Breaux Jr. (new), Junius "Blanco" Breaux (idem) and Willie (your Willus).

We'll need to find either the marriage of Alcide Breaux with Eva Miguez or his obituary to find out who his parents were.

The history is very sketchy as the Breaux's in my family are more than private.
I only know/knew my Grandmother and father as Eva Miguez & Alcie Breaux.
The Alcide came in later.
Their children were:
Hazel, Junius "Blanco", Loveless, Merlene, Amy and Willus, a stepdaughter Patricia.
Other than that, I have no other information.

Saw it myself last Christmas at my sister's house in the Parrish.

I would tend to think that the J. in Alcide J. Breaux would stand for Joseph; a very common baptismal name amongst catholic cajuns in Louisiana.

As for your comment on not knowing your grandfather's marriages to Vivian Robinson and Helen Bergeron, it would seem that ASKPY messages on June 20th (obits and extract from South Louisiana VItal Family Records) proves the exactitude of these marriages. Who was your grandfather Alcide married to ?

Victorine, who lived to be 99 years old, was my grandfather's aunt and godmother. She was my great-grandmother's sister. Alida was my g-grandmother. I remember Alida and her sisters, Julia, Julienne, and Victorine, because they lived a long time. Victorine died when I was in my 20s.

Alcide Joseph Breaux, son of Justine Brown and Ernest Breaux Sr., died 14 February 1965, at Mercy Hospital in New Orleans. He was buried in St. Mary Pamela Cemetery, Raceland, Louisiana. The info came from his obituary published in The Times-Picayune, New Orleans, Louisiana, on Monday, 15 February 1965, section 1, page 8, column 5.

Vivian Robinson was married to 1) Alcide Joseph Breaux (son of Dorza and Victorine) and 2) Oley Joseph Breaux (son of Leonce Breaux and Ophelia).

Vivian married Alcide, 30 May 1929, according to South Louisiana Vital Family Records, published by Terrebonne Parish Genealogical Society, volume 8, page 34; Thibodaux Courthouse Marriages 1929, #146.

Oley's obit appeared in The Times-Picayune, Wednesday, 26 March 1986, page A-31, column 4. The children of Vivian and Alcide are listed as Oley's step-children.

Alcide J. Breaux was my grandfather. I do not know what the letter "J" stands for and have not beeen able find out.
I do not know of his marriage to Vivian Robinson or Helen Bergeron.
Victorine Sonnier is my greatgrandmother.
I have tried to validate all this information and can not, as that I do not communicate with the family since my father died and records are scarce, everything was by word of mouth.
Please do not use any of this information to try to validate any other information connected with these people.

Correct name of the Alcide who died in October 1967 referenced above is Alcide Jean Breaux. He died in the Veterans Administration Hospital, New Orleans.

Alcide J. Breaux, age 72 years, born 24 June 1895, died 8 October 1967. Husband of Claire Ayo. No parents listed. He had 3 children, 5 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild. He was born in Lafourche Parish and lived in New Orleans, where he is buried in Cypress Grove Cemetery.

I hope you've had success since 2004. In case you haven't, there were are several people named Alcide Joseph Breaux. At least two of them died in the 1960s.

Alcide Joseph Breaux, born 3 March 1909, Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana, son of Dorza and Victorine Sonnier, married Vivian Robinson, 30 May 1929, in Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana. Their children were Earl Joseph, Emma, and Eula.

Alcide later married Helen Antoinette Bergeron, after his marriage to Vivian broke up. Alcide and Helen had no children, although Helen had Prejean children from a previous marriage.

This Alcide died 11 January 1980, and is buried in St. Bridget Cemetery, Schriever, Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana.

I found that Mary Florentine Racca (Lyons,Otto) was married to a man named Sustan Breaux before she died in 1925 (according to Family Search). I'm actually looking for where Mary Florentine was BURIED. It was probably in Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana but can NOT find it. Also I'm wondering abt the marriage between Mary and Sustan Breaux.

my grandfather eddie breaux had family in lake arthur and around there. looking for his brothers family frank breaux charlie breaux claybe breaux anis breaux and his only sister lillian breaux my grandfather died in lake arthur around 1963 he was around 50

Eugene Joseph Breaux is my grandfather as well. His parents were Theriot and Clementine Tricuit. My grandfather was married twice, His 2nd wife was Lydia Duroncelet Breaux - They had 2 children Dorothy Breaux and Carol Breaux. Carol was my mother. My grandfather past away in California in 1993- I am also researching my heritage and the breaux and tricuit families - Anastasia
