Strange that you mentioned the name Winney as I saw this at this site. WWW.Buffalonian.com as he was the first White Settler of Black Rock (Buffalo NY). He was a Wiskey Trader from the Hudsons Valley and I "THink" He was with Butlers Rangers for a while. He moved on to Detroit. He was partners with a man called "Black Joe" a coloured person and he was associated with William Johnson (William of Canajohari).
This is worth checking out as I am searching for the same families.
