Looking at my notes, I can't tell exactly where I got Yadkin Co, VA from. And I do see where my notes do say Surry/Yadkin Co., in N.C. as well; also where he was born in (county blank) VA. I seem to recall one source saying 'Surry (now Yadkin). I should have questioned this - but with changing boundary lines, and counties being split or renamed I didn't.
That said, I'm looking at "Yadkin County was formed in 1850 from the part of Surry County south of the Yadkin River, for which it was named." http://www.newrivernotes.com

On to Elijah..earlier post by Momster mentioned Elijah, b. 13 JAN 1776. Chatham Co., NC, d. 1859, Jasper GA . m1: Alice Jane HUTCHENS, m2: Martha CARLTON (1805-1880) - to this union, 3 children: John Chiles, Thos. V., Joseph N. I have an Elijah - s/o George C. BRANDON & Tillar HUTCHENS - specifically: "George C., wife "Tillar" and 5 children moved to Center Twp, Greene, IN. about 1828. 2 Sons: Levi, & Eli. 3 Daughters: Elizabeth "Betsy", Nancy & Lydia.
Momster's post stuck in my mind, kinda nagging at me - so I compared her post to my notes....catalyst for my comments that the Elijah I have - s/o Geo. C & Tillar, m. to Alice Jane "Alsey" HUTCHENS - couldn't be same person - because her Elijah born 1776 (which is 16 years before father George C. was born!) ( Could be a different Elijah but not likely s/o Geo. C., and not likely h/o Alice Jane.
"Tillar" -( w/o Geo. C. BRANDON) and Jesse HUTCHENS (father of "Alsey") were brother & sister - children of John HUTCHENS (who was son of Strangeman HUTCHENS, b. VA.)
Momster has added a current post, revising birth data for Elijah to about 1800, Stokes Co., N.C....and parents of Elijah still unknown. [1800 as birth year is still too early for him to be s/o Geo. C. & Tiller - I believe it's more likely he's brother of Geo. C (possibly a cousin)- but that is a total GUESS at this point! I do believe he married Martha CARLTON....but he didn't marry Alsey.
