I would appreciate any info re. my great-grandfather, George Brandl, born approx. 1877 in Germany. He married Theresa Pankratz (b. 1885) in Auburndale, Wisconsin on November 17, 1902. They had 4 children--Beatrice, George W., Mary, and Arthur. My great-grandfather may have immigrated here from Germany with his parents (father=Mike, mother=?).

I am trying to track down information on my grandfather Ludwig Brandl. He would have been born in approximately 1864 in Germany. Later, he and 2 sons came over to Canada and settled in Alberta, Canada. He had numerous children, and and married several times, eventually marrying a Ukranian woman, Nancy (Wilenski?), my Grandmother. They had 8 children together in Canada, one of which was my Dad, Benjamin Ludwig Brandl (born 1936). I have a Michael Brandl who was 1st married to Dorothy Hoelze. Had 4 daughters-Catharine b.10-28-1839,married George Brendel, Barbara b.4-12-1842, married James Stahl, Anne b.4-2-1845, married George Soeller, Anne Ursula b.?, married John Horn. Michael Brandl was 2nd married to Anna? in 1880 census they were living in Glencoe, IL with his children Joseph b-1870, George b.-1872, Michael b.-1874, Paul b-1876 and Anna b-1879. Michael Sr. was 65 on this census. Children by 1st marriage were all living in Hamilton Co. Il by 1880 with their own families. I know Usurla Brandl came to US 9-28-1868 from Kaltenthal, Bayern Germany.
Catharine Brandl Brendel is my GG Grandmother.

personally I don't have any known links to Bavarian Brandls.

However, the timeframe you mentioned isn't that far back, you should therfore be able to find some information on the whererabouts and relatives of Ludwig BRANDL. Have you already tried locating parish records or maybe even LDS microfilmed records from that area? I doubt that there will be any (civilian) data in the record section of the respective townhalls, because as I believe registrations there started years later only (if I'm wrong, I'll hopefully be corrected).

The LDS micofilmed tapes of Landsberg am Lech are listed as two tapes Dont know which one to order. Maybe I will have to order the 2 tapes.
Tape numbers 1958522 item 8 or 2189663 Items 1-4.
St Ulrich and Katharina Parishs are listed as 810051.
Have you ever looked at these tapes?

No, unfortunately not ;-(

This means that I can't help you with any own first hand experience. Difficult to find out which roll to order - a search on the LDS website for Landsberg at http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library/fhlcatalog/supermain... shows even 4 rools of film! Just have a look at that place if you haven't yet, it gives some more details re. which roll keeps which records.

Maybe also they can help you at your nearest FHC? From what I know, ordering these films isn't really expensive anyhow.

sounds like you didn't find anything helpful on the LDS film rolls we were discussing last summer?

Depending on what you have tried already, here are a few more ideas (please disregard those that you have tried already)

* since 1925 isn't that far back in time, I would try contacting the Brandls in that area. Go to http://www.teleauskunft.de/ click on 'Das Telefonbuch' and on the next page click 'English'. You'll find 6 Brandls in Landsberg, none in that other place...

* post your query with as many details as possible to the Bavarian message board (maybe also the mailing list). The board is at http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/board/rw/localities.ceeuro...

* you have probably tried searching some or all of the genealogical search sites. What I do with my unresolved queries is, I go back to search for them again and again. There may come up new data that weren't around the last time. As you probably know you can find search sites & machines on our resources site at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~brandlsurname/#a2

* I would probably try and contact the town registry office in Landsberg. They may have some data there. The town's record section (Meldeamt) address is ewo@landsberg.de and the civil registry office (Standesamt) is standesamt@landsberg.de
I don't know how far back they would have records, but it may be worth trying.

* You might also try the Bavarian FAQs at http://bavariafaqs.homestead.com/index.html
