Hi,
most of you are certainly aware of the fact, that there are lots of spelling variants for
Brendel.
For those who aren't, let me draw your attention for instance to the
BRANDL message board at
http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/board/rw/Surnames.Brandl But of course there are several more query boards and mailing lists for variant spellings out there.
My own family's name,
BRANDL, goes back quite a long time. But when I dug out the father of my last known
BRANDL ancestor, what a surprise: His name in the books was PRAENDL, born in about 1717.
Since some time we have a
BRANDL resources site at
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~brandlsurname/The links, hints and data (including some soundex census transcriptions for the USA) on this site may be helpful for any of the name variants you might have in your family.
All the best for your research
Tilman
