Braaten, Brothen from Norway
Hi, Apparently there were three brothers that came over in the late 1800's My Great Great Grandfather Thorval Brothen was asked by immigration to change the spelling of his name when he came to this country. He had two brothers John and Carl that came over later. They lived in Minnesota , my Grandfather Ivar Brothen is one of nine children and he had my mother and my Identical Twin Uncles Ivar and Rolf. It is my understanding that in Norway the name was Prestebraaten( not sure of the spelling) anyone with any other information I would love to share. Thanks , Kris

Hi we are two Braaten children tracing our history. Our father has told us that our name is of Norweigen origin and we came across this message that seems to confirm this. We would really like to know about our history on our father's side so please tell us anything you can about the Braatens and we'll find out if it links to us. Thank you

tracing Braaten family history
I am the granddaughter of Hazel P. Braaten, born 7-24-1905.
Hazel was the daughter of Hans Lewis (Stavn) Braaten, born 4-3-1865 in Buskrude, Norway, died 11-26-1933 in Salem, Oregon. Hans married Barbara Pedersdatter in 1891 in Red Cloud, Nebraska. Barbara apparently came from Norway, possibly with her mother, father, sisters and a brother.
Hans and Barbara's other children were: Melvin Lewis Braaten, born 4-24-1892 (never had children); Blanch Pauline Braaten, born 2-16-1894; Mable Britina Braaten, born 4-25-1896; Alice Amelia Braaten, born 4-1-1898; and Clarence Otis Braaten, born 9-4-1900 (never had children).
Hans was the son of Lars Olsen Langeslet/Ejdal/Rauk, born 10-16-1835 in Norway, and Margrethe Hansdatter, born 4-17-1833 in Norway.
Hans was the sibling of: Ole Larsen Stavn, born 11-1-1857 in Norway; Hans Larsen Stavn, born 7-23-1859, Flaa, Norway (died 12-10-1863, Flaa, Norway) Birgit Larsdatter Stavn/Braaten, born 3-24-1862, Flaa, Norway (married Niels Arnsen Braaten 7-28-1889 in Wisconsin); Haloor Larsen Stavn/Braaten, born 3-21-1868 in Norway; Kari Larsdatter Stavn/Braaten, born 3-12-1871 in Norway; Ingrid Larsdatter Stavn/Braaten, born 12-16-1873, Flaa, Norway; Halvor Larsen Stavn, born 11-25-1878 in Norway.
Lars Olsen Langeslet/Ejdal/Rauk was the son of Ole Larsen (Langeslet) Rauk and Bergit Halovrsdatter Hova.
Margrethe Hansdatter was the daughter of Hans Thorsen and Kari Stennersdatter.
Hope some of this may be helpful to you!
