I'm beginning a search on the Braaten family history. The name was Liabraaten and they came from Flaa, Norway and settled near Brooten, Minnesota. Would love to hear from anyone who has any information on Ole Liabraaten, Oscar Liabraaten, Albin Liabraaten (lived in Trail, MN).

I am son of Clairmont LiaBraaten, who is the youngest son of Ole LiaBraaten. The Ole LiaBraaten family ended up in Hibbing MN.
There is a history text book in the family that tell that the city of Brooten was from LiaBraaten.

Grant--thanks for yr reply. Would you know a birthdate for your Ole? And how do I get a copy of the family text book for "LiaBraaten" history? Connie

I will try to find the publisher and name of the book. If I can gain access to the book(my uncle Jerome had it last I saw it), I can scan and email the page or two that applies. If I remember correctly, it was some form of MN history book.
I will also inquire on the BD of Ole Ole LiaBraaten.

thanks Grant--that would be great to see! Have you seen the names of "Tangen" or "Stavn" or "Lodoen" connected with Braatens? (all norwegian, of course) Connie

I am interested in the Nils Liabraaten, Ole Braaten and Kolbjorn Braaten family. Also the Stavn name is in this family. Would appreciate information on this family.

My husband is the grandson of Albin LiaBraaten of Trail, Minnesota. Albin was the son of Ole Olson LiaBraaten (born about 1843 in Flaa) and Margit Aune. What other information are you looking for?

I hadn't looked at the message board for ages and don't even remember my log in. It was when I had a different email. Could you email me at travelbug41@yahoo.com. I'd like to be in touch and talk about our ancestors. Thanks!

Hi, Nels Braaten(LiaBraaten?)was my great, great grandfather also. He was born in 1832 in Flaa Hallingdal,Norway and is buried in West Norway Lake Cemetery near New London, Mn. My great grandma was his 2nd wife, and her name was Gunhild. They had a son Ole, who changed his last name to Nelson (Nels'son)because there was the older son Ole. Kolbjorn was also from the 1st marriage. What was their Mom's name? The two brothers Ole, were known as big Ole and little Ole. GO FIGURE! Gunhild died when Great grandpa Ole was an infant, possibly childbirth. Nels then married the 3rd time to Anna. They had 9 kids, one whom was named after my grandma Gunhild. Ole Nelson was my great grandfather. He married Joran Pladsen, and their daughter Christine(Ole)Lien, was my grandma. Thanks so much for the info! I hope this additional info is helpful to you also. It's fun to chat with new family. Gloria Wyatt Red Wing, Mn.
