Ok, I forwarded this on to 3 Bozzays I am working with on it. My husband is a Bozzay and I admin the Bozzay board plus several other genealogical sites and email lists.

I am out tomnorrow morning and tomorrow evening.
I live in the US Central time zone and will be home sometime after 10 PM. I am up generally until at least midnight.

If that is too late and the afternoon does not work, Tuesday I should be home in the evening.
I agree: we can estimate between 20 and 45, and that's why I used ~30, sort of in the middle, and then went back, and forward, a few years.
If you look on the Ancestry site at the emergency passport application 21 year-old Roza filled out to get her and her 18 year-old sister "Margit" to the US in 1924 from Hungary you'll see that it says her father was Mihaly Bozzay. That he came to the US in 1899 and left for Hungary in, as I remember,1913, having lived in Hungary since then. So he and his wife had to have been in the US for the births in 1903 Roza and 1905 for Margit/Margareth. The application spans two pages so you have to hit the arrow button to go to the next one which has pics of both girls. Margareth was working for the Fox family, at 37 Hillside Ave. in Caldwell, NJ in 1930. On the same ship was Zsigmond Toth, going to his mother Julia Bozzay; he said she lived at 11 Hillside Ave... I will call you tomorrow, thanks.

I figure birth normally for men 20 to 45 (yes some men father children later but that seems to be the norm.)

Do you know if Mihaly was in the US or if just his wife was here? I am assuming he is the father of the girls?

If we can narrow this down I can ask Joli and Zsuzsi to see what other info exists... but as you can see the list was just too long to do that without some more data...

If you would like you can call me at 636-225-2687 and maybe we can talk and figure something out...

I don't know his wife's name. But as far as Mihaly's concerned, his daughter Roza/Rozalia/Rosalia, etc., was born in 1903 in Rankin, PA, so, assuming for example that he was ~30 at the time I might "guess" he'd have been born around 1873 +/_ a few years... But not after 1883. What do you think? Therefore I'd guess that it might be Mihaly born 1863 or the one born in 1880...

I have been in contact with people in both England and in Felpec to try and determine who Mihaly was. The problem is there were many of them in Felpec during this time period. Here is a list of the ones that have been identified. Do you know his wife's name? Below are the Mihaly listing for Felpec with their associated birth dates.

Mihály	1743.11.13.
Mihály	1770.11.17.
Mihály	1781.
Mihály	1791.
Mihály	1815.04.14.
Mihály	1823.09.02.
Mihály	1825.08.28.
Mihály	1831.03.16.
Mihály	1840.11.16.
Mihály	1848.11.09.
Mihály	1853.09.05.
Mihály	1858.07.01.
Mihály	1859.07.14.
Mihály	1860.12.02.
Mihály	1863.06.16.
Mihály	1880.09.08.
Mihály	1886.11.24.
Mihály	1894.08.23.
Mihály	1905.08.28
I think the problem I have is this info is too recent.
But these names are all in my husband's family line.

Let me give you what I have and I will contact one of the Bozzay family still living in Felpec. She runs the Felpec museum there.

I can't attach files other than gedcom here. So I can't share my database with you here. You can send me an email at lbozzay@relaquest.com and I can send you a file of Felpec marriages I have been compiling. It is not complete.

1 Estovan BOZZAY
----------------------------------------

Children:	Pal

1.1 Pal BOZZAY
----------------------------------------

Spouse:	Juliana TOTH
Marr:	24 Feb 1846, Felpec, Gyor County, Hungary

Children:	Andras Albert (1852-1906)
Lidia (1859-)
Zsigmond (1856-)
Sandor (1849-)
Jozsef (1848-)
Pal (1847-)

1.1.1 Mr. Andras Albert BOZZAY
----------------------------------------
Birth:	18 Nov 1852, Felpec, Gyor County, Hungary
Death:	Nov 1906, Felpec, Gyor County, Hungary
Burial:	1906, Felpec, Gyor County, Hungary

Helen Bozzay's note had Andras being born in 1859, but that is actually the year his sister Lidia was born. I think it was a slip of the memory because all of the other Andras listings were much older and there is a known connection with the Toth family.

Spouse:	Lydia KISS
Birth:	1868, Gocse, Hungary
Death:	1935, Cleveland, Ohio

Children:	Dennis (Denes) (1885-1973)
Lydia (Lidi) (1888-1986)
Kalman (1893-)
Unnamed (Stillborn) (1891-)

1.1.1.1 Mr. Dennis (Denes) BOZZAY
----------------------------------------
Birth:	3 Mar 1885, Felpec, Gyor County, Hungary
Death:	1973, St. Louis, Missouri
Burial:	1973, St. Louis, Missouri
Occ:	Cigar factory foreman, Farmer,

He was an avid reader and taught himself Spanish when he was over 75 years old. They said address in US was Aunt Julia Toth in Caldwell, NJ. The ship's manifest (Ellis Island.org) revealed a fellow with the surname Toth who was also traveling on a passport from the US legation in Budapest going to his mother Julia Bozzay in Caldwell, NJ...

I've added the link above to Ancestry where you can find the information I just wrote, however, you can just type in Roza Bozzay in Ancestry.com's search box and it will come up for you.

I'm wondering if the after the Russian Revolution/WWI, etc. made living in Hungary unpleasant and the girls wanted to come to the US. Father Milahy was not an American citizen, and it appears he stayed in Hungary. I'm going to check the history of the area to see what happened in that time frame.

Margareth was a domestic in Caldwell, NJ. in the 1930's.

I would appreciate any help you can give me.

Thanks for your reply.

I don't have Rose or Margrit in my database but I checked with one of the Bozzay cousins and she had relatives in Caldwell NJ (ours were in Perth Amboy). She sent me this note: Janos Vaczi was married to Julianna Bozzay on Jan. 21, 1890. They had a stillborn child on June 5, 1890. Janos went to Caldwell, NJ, US on May 23, 1901.
Jan. 21, 1890	Janos Vaczi, 24, born 1866	son of Janos Vaczi and Julianna Varga groom
Julianna Bozzay, 18, born 1872	daughter Mihaly Bozzay, Zauzsanna Czigany bride
married in Caldwell, NJ
These may or maynot be relations to you
I think they may have been from FelPec, Gyor in Hungary.
There are some other Bozzay families I have been in contact with in the past. I will see if any of the emails still work and see if any of them know about Rose or Margrit.

Does that ring any bells?

In 1924 a Rosa and Margit traveled on an emergency passport to Hungary.

Bozzai town close to the Austro-Hungarian border

The town Bozzai is located 2 miles SW of Szombathely
by the Austro-Hungarian border. This is where our ancestor, Varda, fought off Ottocar II when he was trying to invade Hungary and earned his freedom from King Stephen V in 1271.

I believe Bozzai means "elderberry".

Hello, I got lost for a while. Stupid computer gave up the ghost and I lost all the e-mail addresses. Just got round to replacing the computer. Old e-mail address no longer working, please use the hotmail one ade_bozzay@hotmail.com
or even
mad-ade@talk21.com

Welcome

Welcome to the Bozzay Message Board.

The name Bozzay is from Hungary. It was bestowed on our ancestor in 1271 by King Stephen V after our ancestor helped to fight off Ottocar II who was attempting to invade Hungary.

Please leave any Bozzay family related messages.

The name is sometimes spelled Bozzai (like the town), Bodzai, Bozay, and Bozai.
