HELP!! I have been doing a family tree for awhile and am unable to get much info. Here is what I have my father was Lewis Alonson Boynton b.1923 m. 1944 to Maraget Parr. His father was David (Melvile ?) his mother was Minnie Mae Brockway. David my grandfather died near Niagara Falls, Ont. Canada. If anyone can add to this I would greatly appreciate the help.

Surnames: Boynton, Oster, Barton
Hello:

I'm researching my husband's family of Osters. His grandparents were Thomas Oster and Mina Boynton.

I've been extremely frustrated in trying to find any info on Mina Boynton because the only marriage I've found for Thomas Oster was a marriage to Alice Barton in 1900.

Thomas and Mina lived in Vaughan Township, Ontario, Canada. They had one son and 3 daughters. Mina was born about 1880 but we have no idea where or who her parents were.

We're not sure that Mina Barton and Alice Barton are not the same person but haven't been able to prove anything so far.

I've decided to begin searching Boynton message boards and hope to find someone that may recognize the names.

Are these names familiar to you?

Teresa

Hi Teresa,

I don't know anything about Canadian records, but if you had posted this in relation to New Zealand records, I'd be asking you what that marriage registration said about Alice BARTON, ie her age, her place of birth, and her parents. Maybe that will give you a connection to Mina BOYNTON?

Also, do you know when Mina died, and do Canadian death registrations tell you much that may shed some light on her?

I know we are "fortunate" in this part of the world to have our convict history, because it has influenced the amount of data collected for births, deaths, and marriages - the authorities liked to know what was going on, and with whom, and it has only increased over time. I hope you're able to access similar levels of information where you are. :-)

Kind Regards,
Wendy Howard

Hello Again:

Thanks for the advice Wendy. Unfortunately, I've not been able to find any info that would lead me to be able to identify Mina Boynton any further. We do have her death certificate but it only gives the information as known by her son (my husband's father). We don't even know if her name was "Mina" or whether that was a nickname or shortened name. We also have the marriage information for Thomas Oster and Alice Barton, giving her age and parent's names. I've not yet been able to find birth records for either Mina or Alice, hence the frustration.
I truly appreciate the helpful suggestions and hope that there will be a lost family member looking at this site sometime soon.

Teresa

Teresa,
This might be a longshot, but I have a Minnie E. Boynton in my family tree. She was born abt 1866 in Hartley Township,Stanstead County,Quebec Canada and died bef .Jan 3,1916.
Unfortunately, I don't have any other info on Minnie, but I do have more on her parents and siblings.
Try Googling the following book:Forests and Clearings; the History of Stanstead County, province of Quebec bu B.F. Hubbard,
There is quite a bit of information on the Boynton families in that area of Canada.

There was an Alonson Boynton who lived in Aurora. The name was sometimes recorded as Lonson, Alonzo etc,.. He and his wife Eliza (Rhamm, Ramm Rahm ap. ??? had several children see 1951, 1871, 1881 censi. Some Boyntons moved to the States, while some stayed here. Perhaps your Lewis Alonson is a grandchild of Alonson and Eliza.
