Only Richard, Henry, and Samuel are certain to have been children by William's
first marriage. William, Mary, Elizabeth, and Rebecca could have been children
by either marriage, as their birth dates have not yet been identified.
My theory is that William and Mary belonged to the first marriage, and Elizabeth and Rebecca to the second. The birthdates of most of William (Sr)'s younger children were estimated from the ages of the children in his 1840 household and from the years of their marriages, if known. [Note: Michael should have been 15 in 1840, but he is unaccounted for in the BOYD census records of that year, if he was actually born in 1825 as his tombstone states.]
William BOYD is said to have been a Methodist Circuit Riding Preacher who moved from Brunswick Co. NC to Montgomery Co., Alabama ca 1821, where he organized a congregation at Pinetucky (later Pine Level] in the SE part of the county, near Pike Co. Actually, the family seems to have settled first in present-day Pike Co., near Banks, Alabama (by 1829) and to have moved into the Pine Level (Montgomery Co.) area beginning around 1835.
William BOYD wrote his will on 19 Aug 1844 and had it recorded during his lifetime in Montgomery Co. Will Book 2, page 292. We know he was still living when the 1850 census was taken, and there is not a single document in Montgomery Co. probate records to indicate that his will was ever probated, that letters of administration or letters testamentary were ever issued, or in fact any other reference to the estate of this William BOYD. It is possible that he was still living when the family moved to TX, but died not long after the move. Perhaps the Probate records in Coryell Co. (created in 1854 from Bell Co.) or Bell Co. (whose probate records go back to it's creation in 1850) might shed some light on this mystery.
We know that Rebecca and her children came to TX, settling in Coryell Co., where her stepson Henry BOYD (also a Methodist preacher) had a church built by the fall of 1852.
On 1 Jan 1861, Rebecca (SELLERS) BOYD married James KELL. She spent the rest of her life in service to the church and to the family of the area.
On 29 June 1861, Matthew KELL donated an adjacent piece of land to Henry BOYD, William BABB, H. T. EMBRY, and himself (as Trustees) and construction then began on the New Liberty Methodist Church.
I AM NOT A FAMILY MEMBER OF THIS FAMILY BUT I DO HAVE HIM IN MY DATABASE AND I HAVE CHILDREN FOR MOST OF HIS KIDS, TOO. IF YOU NEED MORE INFO. LET ME KNOW MY EMAIL IS
