I am sorry for the delay in answering, but I do really appreciate the clarification. Like you, I don't doubt the given name of Mrs. Robert Box, since the husband mentioned his wife Jane by name in his will.

Figuring out whether this Jane ____ Box was born a Goodwin, or even why the maiden name Goodwin was suggested by other researchers, might help me in my study of the several Goodwin families who passed through Franklin Co. TN before 1830. My spouse descends from one of the later arrivals, James H. Goodwin b. 1800 NC, who had connections with the Wakefield family of Franklin Co., TN, and arrived around 1817.

Back in the 1980s, when I last saw the Muckleroy book, I'd copied down the statement about the 1826 Goodwin/Muckleroy marriage, but must have missed or discounted the info earlier on the page. At that stage of my research, I hadn't yet learned that James H. Goodwin's father and grandfather (George) had resided in South Carolina earlier, so the reference to Laurens Co. would have held little interest then.

I now know that George Goodwin was living in the Fair Forest Creek area of SC by 1772, an area that later became Union Co., SC. Union County, of course, adjoins Laurens County. In 1788, the same George Goodwin was described as a blacksmith, residing in Greenville District, SC, and by the 1790s, he was resident in Pendleton District, SC. In 1810 he was still alive and a landowner, but missing as a head of household on the census.

I am not aware of Goodwin / Box interactions in SC for this specific Goodwin lineage [that is, the part of George Goodwin's known descendants who migrated from SC and passed through Franklin Co., TN.] However, I have not much studied the Laurens County records. That's something I should do next time I get over to the Library.

Re: the given name "Neely" - I've seen some families where that is a nickname for Cornelius. But there definitely is a surname of Neeley in Laurens District.
The name "Micajah" frequently appears spelled as Mecager in SC and GA, so searching records for "Mica*" often fails to find men with that given name. It's a given name that seems to have been more commonly in use during the late 1700s and early 1800s rather than later, such as during Civil War times. But certainly Micajah was never so popular as George, John, Robert, William among the southern settlers.

Again, thank you so much for adding more clarity about the identity of Robert Box's wife Jane.
