To whom ever is interested in the continued research of facts...........
FYI - I have never indicated that Mary Mayhew Cole Bowker put her children out when she married Cyprian Bowker. But, I too, have read that account. I believe that information comes from a person who has done extensive research on the Daniel Cole family. I have no clue if it is true or not, since I have never looked into it. I am certain there was some evidence that this researcher found to corroborate this claim. Sometimes researchers have info they don't put out in cyberspace. To call this untrue means you have info to the contrary?
According to newspaper information, Cyprian Bowker is buried at the town farm cemetery in South Woodstock. Which is located less then a few hundred yards from where he last resided. I have visited the cemetery and there is no markers for many of the people who died, since it is considered a pauper's cemetery, this is not surprising.
As far as, Ruby C. Emery's work, it is one of the clearest accounts of town histories I have read. She is no William B. Lapham, by any stretch, but her work is an interesting piece of local history. Because she did alter some info, any altered info should be looked into further for accuracy. Emery's work is admirable, if not for her attempts and those of Herbert J. Libby,on preserving information of the Bryant Pond area, what would we have to go on?
Concerning which wife of Cyprian's drowned in the pond, there is no evidence exactly which one it was. There is plenty of speculation for both women. Your account is based on the writings of a person who said they were there, as a young boy, during the search for "Mrs.Bowker". Other writings indicate that it was Cyprian's first wife who drowned. Neither woman has a death certificate (to my knowledge), so we are left to wonder, until one is found. I am open to what ever the evidence proves.
In research, one has to consider ALL the information found. Since these are "secondary sources" accounts, nothing is concrete.
