Elizabeth Bowie, daughter of Elizabeth Ogilvie (26 APR 1891 - 25 FEB 1991) and Alexander Bowie (31 MAR 1878 - 27 DEC 1942) died yesterday, July 10, 2007. She was born 15 AUG 1918 in Abbeville, S.C. Never married, no children. The funeral will be at Rose Hill Presbyterian Church in Columbia, S.C. on Friday, July 13th at 2:00 p.m. Elizabeth was a kind-hearted soul who took care of her church and friends. She will be sorely missed.
Elizabeth's mother, Elizabeth Ogilvie Bowie is shown as having served in the CORP Infantry. Mrs. Bowie rolled bandages for the White Cross during World War 2 and for years delivered meals on Mondays for the Meals on Wheels program. Mr. Bowie was a veteran of the Spanish-American War. Both are buried in the veterans cemetery in Chattanooga.
Elizabeth graduated from Chattanooga High School and then Erlanger School of Nursing in 1943. She was commissioned as an Ensign in the U.S. Navy JAN 1944 and retired as a LtCmdr on 29 FEB 1964.
Elizabeth had one sister, Mary Jane Bowie, born 13 APR 1920 and died SEP 1974. Mary never married and had no children.
