I too am a descendant of David and Ruth Bowhall. Ruth is the most distant female in my maternal line that I am able to trace. I have a pension record for Charles G. Storrin stating that his mother was Mary Bowhall. Mary was the wife of John H. Storrin of Hermon, NY. I know very little regarding Mary except for her birth : 12 Sept 1815. She most likely died around the birth of her last child, perhaps 1845/7. Pictures of her husband exist, so perhaps photos of her or her family may exist somewhere too? I would like to find out more about her - any information greatly appreciated.
Sandy

This is wonderful - amazing information. My mother's grandfather was James H. Pike, the son of Henrietta Charlotte Bowhall who was married to Robert R. Pike. This is the same James Pike who is listed as living with his grandparents, Elizabeth and James Bowhall in Kent County Michigan in 1880. Until now I had no idea what Elizabeth's maiden name was. I am very excited and interested to learn more about the Fordham's and Bowhall's going back. Please e-mail me at lisa@scrapbuglane.com. Thanks so much!

This is what I have on my Bowhall line. James Bowhall's wife was my gr gr gr grandmother's half sister Elizabeth Fordham Bowhall. Thank you for your reply.

Descendants of David Bowhall

Generation No. 1

1. DAVID BOWHALL was born in New York1. He married RUTH GLOYD1. She was born in New York1.

Child of DAVID BOWHALL and RUTH GLOYD is:
2.	i.	JAMES2 BOWHALL, b. 19 Jul 1817, New York; d. 15 May 1887, Nelson Twp. Kent County, Michigan.

Generation No. 2

2. JAMES2 BOWHALL (DAVID1)1 was born 19 Jul 1817 in New York1, and died 15 May 1887 in Nelson Twp. Kent County, Michigan1. He married ELIZABETH FORDHAM, daughter of JESSE FORDHAM and BETSEY FLOYD. She was born 14 Feb 1829 in Canada (as per census information) New York on death certificate, and died 19 Jun 1902 in Cedar Springs, Kent County, Michigan. Still looking for graves for Elizabeth & James Bowhall. Two of their children are buried in Elmwood Cemetery in Cedar Springs, MI. Other Bowhall's are buried in Sand Lake Cemetery, Sand Lake, MI.

Notes for JAMES BOWHALL:
Cause of death, Bright's disease.

1870 Polkton, Ottawa County, Michigan Census
Coopersville Post Office
James Bowhall 53 Farm Labor
Betsey 43 Keeping House
Henry 18 Farm Labor
Henrietta 16 At Home
Samuel 14 At Home
Anna 12 At Home
Andrew 6 At Home

1880 Census Nelson Twp, Kent County, Michigan

James Bowhall 62 Laborer
Elizabeth 53 Keeping house
Andrew 16 Laborer
Hattie 9
James Pike, Grandson, 6 years.

Notes for ELIZABETH FORDHAM:
AKA Betsey/ Betsy.

Year of birth for Elizabeth varies. Author is currently looking for the place she is buried in Nelson Twp. Kent County, Michigan. The 1860, Hermon, St. Lawrence Co. New York census states she was born in Canada in 1829. Her birth in Canada is very possible, since her father Jesse Fordham owned property in Russelltown.

Russelltown was a region in the southwest corner of the Seigniory of Beauharnois. It was bounded on the northeast by the Jamestown and South Georgetown regions of the seigniory, on the southwest by Hinchinbrooke Township in the County of Huntingdon, on the south east by the western end of Hemmingford Township (later the townships of Franklin and Havelock) in the County of Huntingdon and on the northeast by the English River and Edwardstown region.
________________________________________
Land Documents:

Black River Concession (south side)
Concession du Côte Sud de la Rivière Noire
(Concession along the south side of the Rivière Noire starting at what later became the Village of St-Chrysostome.)
Date Lot # Name Occupation Apr 24, 1827	9	Jesse Fordham farmer Residence: Russelltown

Following Elizabeth's father's marriage to his second wife, Lydia Evans Allard (Widow of Moses Allard, Sr. & neighbor to Jesse in Russelltown) they moved to St. Lawrence County, NY-which is where the BOWHALL family lived.

Betsey Fordham married James Bowhall and in or about 1869 they moved to Michigan and first settled in Polkton Twp. Ottawa County, Michigan. (This occured on or about the same time as Lucretia and her family, Achsah and her family and brother Theodore and his family came to Michigan.)

Also according to death certificate, It lists Betsey Floyd as her mother. Cause of death Gastritis.

Betsy Bowhall, is named in documents petitioning the court in the matter of the estate of her brother, Wiers Fordham. He left no will so an intestate was filed and Betsy and her siblings were contesting it, claiming Alma and Fred were incompetent. Documents were delivered to Alma and Fred stating this. April 16 & 17, 1884. Documents list Frederick Fordham as nephew of Wiers Fordham.

Elizabeth Bowhall was shown living in Cedar Springs in the above mentioned document.
Betsey Bowhall is found living with one of her daughters and a son-in-law during a later census, in Cedar Springs.

Children of JAMES BOWHALL and ELIZABETH FORDHAM are:
3.	i.	CHARLES W.3 BOWHALL, b. Jun 1848, New York; d. Casnovia, Kent County, Michigan.
ii.	LYDIA BOWHALL1, b. 18491.
4.	iii.	JAMES HENRY BOWHALL, b. Sep 1852, New York; d. 24 Oct 1902, Sand Lake, Kent County, Michigan.
5.	iv.	HENRIETTA BOWHALL, b. 06 Aug 1853, St. Lawrence County, New York; d. 27 May 1879, Cedar Springs, Kent County, Michigan.
v.

My mother-in-law was a Bowhall. Her family came from St. Lawrence Co NY. through Canada to Michigan. Her grandfather was David Bowhall who had a brother named James (not the sames James I'm sure;there were many James' in the Bowhall family). When I was living in Northern Michigan I ran across a Bowhall (Gary - I think) working in an electronics shop(Sunrise Electronics)in Petoskey. We started talking and his father apparently has the same family stories as my mother-in-law. I believe his family was from David's brother, James', family line. I unfortuneately never made the time to speak to him (which I've been thinking more about getting back intouch with him). Anyway, I believe they're from the Grand Rapids area.

As far as the death records...I found death records in Canada on Sarah Bowhall (David's wife), but when I went to the cemetary wasn't able to find the grave. I was informed by the caretaker that the cemetary had actual been moved from another location. Unfortuneately the bodies that were moved were never remarked with headstones. The person's name, and the original headstone inscription was recorded in the register with the location, but nothing else to mark the grave. I was very disappointed.

I hope this information gets to you as it's been several months since you posted your inquiry. I hope this is helpful. I would be willing to share whatever information I have on my Bowhall line if you think it might be helpful.

Good Luck!

according to my findings Davids' Father would be Caspar Bowhall and his mother Margeretha Contreman. If this is correct then I am also working on this line. David had a brother John (29 Mar 1798- 11 Dec 1881) that married Margaret Klumph(29 Aug 1800-8 May 1868). They are my 4th great grandparents and I have info on them. my email is cscharger86@gmail.com if you wish to share info.

Looking for information of Cora Hawley who was married to (?) Woodhouse. They had 2 girls: Marjorie born 8 Nov 1913 and Mildred born 13 Apr 1916, in the Village of Newark, Wayne Co,New York. The rest of the information I have are pictures. The people are posing from late 1800's to early 1900's, they are: Picture #1(about 1920): Edith Yates, Stella Hawley, Cora Woodhouse, Frank Hawley, Marie Bennett and Clara Bennett. Picture #2 (about 1890): Woodhouse Family: Grandma, Grandpa, Charles, Ben, Maria and Walter. In picture #3: Maria is id'ed as the only sister. From another paper I have it lists Charles Edward Woodhouse married to a Helen Bowhall, her second marriage to a Clarence Hotaling. Mr Finnegan is a name my father remembers as an engineer on the Erie Canal, unknown on the relation tie in. Do these people sound fimilar to anyone? Let me know.
Thanks.....Mike

I received a note today from Bowhall-L from a girl asking if anything was still going on here. I know that things are different and I have heard from the administrator, but it's been probably since last fall.

My BOWHALL was James Bowhall, married to my gr gr grandmother's sister, Elizabeth FORDHAM, in St. Lawrence Co NY. They moved to Michigan and are both living in the Cedar Springs area (N.E. of Grand Rapids.). I can't find where they're buried, although I have death records on both.

Son Samuel is buried in the cemetery in Cedar Springs, as is their daughter, Henrietta, who left a son, that they raised for a time-named James Pike. (Husband was Robert Pike.)

I've put in my two cents, now lets use this list!! *Smile*

The "boo" spelling is a bit unusual but it's used with the same folks who used only "bo".

Folks with the name standardized around "bohall" and "bowhall" in the US in the mid 1800s.

Gail, in your study, be sure to remember that the family members are known to have spelled it both BOWHALL and BOHALL in the 1700s.

In the 1400s it was also spelled BOHALLE and BOUGHALLE, but BONHAL and BOHAL are also acceptable.

Is there also a spelling of BOHOL? and BOOHALL? In a
cemetery in Tompkins Cnty, the following people are buried near each other: My g-g-g-grandfather, Silas COLEGROVE, his wife, Catharine BOHOL (1775-1793), and nearby, Adam BOOHALL (1747-1820) and wife Catharine (Caty) BOOHALL(1737-1835). Are these people Catharine BOHOL's parents? I see an Adam BOOHALL in Champion, Jefferson County, in 1830 and 1850 Census, but "my" Adam was dead then. I was told that Catharine BOHOL was from the Albany area, so now I'm confused. Can you shed any light here?

Most of my family is from the Watertown, NY area. Hooper Boohall purchased land in the area in the early 1800's. Lowville Ny is the gravesite location of William Bohall (died 1850's) and his descendants. My great great grandfather was Darius Bohall. My great grandfather was Elton Bohall.

The Bohall family was known for its poverty and borderline existance, until the early 1900's. My grandfather, Robert Bohall was a successful daily farmer and tax assessor who owned land in Lowville Ny 20 miles southeast of Watertown.
