Please dont be so quick to discount the Princess connections
Although natives seemed to have Elected Sachems on the east coast when the Europeans arrived the bulk of the decisions were made by Women who held clans together.

It was necessary then for a Sachem like Uncas to Marry a woman of the right bloodlines to be considered "Cheif" of the whole tribe.
When Rolfe married Poccahauntis she was babtised and then the English considered her a Royal Bloodline due to her christian conversion and her Fathers position.

The Mohecan were in contact with the French Canadains LONG before the western tribes met with them. I know my family was part English and Mahican, founders of the Boston Trader companies that created the Hudson Bay Company. It was Common for Chiefs to marry their daughters to Traders for diplomatic reasons. My family has lived in Canada LONGER
than the Metis have existed yet we recieve no recognition as a people. I think it is very possible for Upper Hudson river natives to have French connections. Are they Royal, well lets say with 2 Prime Ministers 1 US President and 5 Colonial Govenors in my family tree YES I think she was a Royal Princess and yes there were more than ONE of them.
