I imagine Belinda you may no longer be on Ancestry, but is here what I can confirm.

George W Bottorff's parents were Nicholas and Elizabeth Bottorff listed in the 1850 census in Washington County, Indiana.

I got to this by deduction. I looked up every single George Bottorff (and every possible spelling variation including Pottorff, Buttorff, Bartof, et al) born in Indiana in the 1820s and 1830s.

Now George shows up in the 1860 through 1880 censuses in Jackson County, Indiana, so I need to find a George Bottorff in the 1850 census who I cannot trace elsehwere.

So I have traced about 10 George Bottorffs in the 1850 census. Every one of them can be found in later census, either in the same place or with other family members as listed with them in 1850 census.

Except George W of Washington County. He is there in 1850 and no longer in 1860 as Nicholas and the rest of the family continue up to 1870 in the same household.

The ages match, no other George fits, and one other thing. George's older brother Martin also disappears after the 1850 census for Nicholas in Washington County. One page previous on the same Jackson County 1860 census, living only a few farms away from George and Sallie and Sallie's family, is one Martin Bottorff (spelled in 1870 like George and Sallie as Bartof).

Martin with a new bride and toddler, is the same age as the Martin listed in 1850 as Washington County with Nicholas. Coincidence? Two brothers, show up in 1850 census in one county with their parents, then people with same ages and names show up in a neighboring county in 1860 (and not listed in that same county in 1850) as young married men, it has to be them. Coincidence here is unlikely.

So unless there is paper evidence that overrides this deduction, I am fairly certain the link is there and following though Ncholas and his father Martin, George W is linked to all the other early Bottorff/Badtorf immigrants (and cousin Pottorff's as well).
